So you bring in your brother or your mom or your fraternity brother, they say, wait a second, your sorority sister's joining the board, doesn't make sense. So they can essentially have a veto. But if you say, hey, we need somebody, we're Airbnb, be great to have somebody who knows hospitality. Oh, okay. We've, we've got Paris Hilton here and she's from the Hilton family. Let's get Paris Hilton on the board. And everyone's like, okay, sounds great. It's gonna be a great press release. And she knows hotels and she certainly knows marketing and everybody approves. The founder selected the, uh, uh, the investors approve the independence on the board. What do you give an independent board director? Uh, what's the range of compensation for them? Uh, Hunter Biden got like, uh, $100,000 a month and a couple million dollars a year.
Jason Calacanis — This Week in Startups · You Can't Fire a VC From Your Board: Here's Why | Wilson Sonsini Startup Legal Basics · 2026-08-25Yeah, let's do some stocks. Okay, I thought this was interesting. The travel trade has been on fire this year, and we have talked a lot about Hilton, and we've talked about, um, Marriott and Expedia and Booking.com, um, the airlines. There's just been money made, and this is not one year, this is going on multiple years. One of the big laggards all this time finally caught a bid. And it is Airbnb. And this is a company whose product I will never use. I will not stay in someone's home. I don't judge anyone for wanting to do that. I will never let somebody stay in my home.
Josh Brown — The Compound and Friends · Bubble bursts in 2027, Nvidia earnings preview, Materials sector set-up, AirBnB takes flight · 2026-08-25Wasn't it $40 billion? Fucking insane amount of money for this, what is now just chaos, you know, it's funny. So there's that, and so this guy's saying 80%. So again, this is a few years ago, so you're dealing with actual humans who are doing it. So you have these state-sponsored groups that are— there's these bot farms, and what these bot farms are, you— I don't know if you've ever seen them. But people have like gone inside and filmed them, like whistleblowers. And what they literally have is like rows and rows of Android phones that are all connected to like— phones without keyboards. Yes. And they'll type one thing and that one thing gets tweeted by hundreds and hundreds of phones. And there's many of these places. And this was back before you get AI to automate things for you. Now that you could do a thing where you can essentially start a campaign online, like say Steve Hilton's a cunt, pass it on. And literally they will— you could hire a company and this company has bots that will go out there and promote that Steve Hilton is a cunt. And they will put it everywhere. They'll hire people, they'll pay people. This is another thing. Yeah, there's a bunch of like really bad actors, really bad faith actors on Twitter that are paid to post things. And these people have been called out many times by other people that are independent journalists that say, isn't it crazy that all these people use the same language at the same time?
Joe Rogan — The Joe Rogan Experience · #2542 - Steve Hilton · 2026-08-19Wake up, they go, Steve Hilton's making a lot of sense, let's vote him in. Michael Batnick — The Compound and Friends · Treasury yields break out, how to invest with Bill Ackman, Workday rumors, off-balance sheet madness · 2026-08-18Yeah, honestly, if I was going to pick a celebrity, it wouldn't be Taylor Swift. I think it would be Paris Hilton, because if, if high-end hotel brands get associated with clean air, I think that would be pretty valuable.
Misha Gurevich — "The Cognitive Revolution" | AI Builders, Researchers, and Live Player Analysis · Let There Be Germicidal Light: This $500 Fixture Could Stop the Next Pandemic, from Complex Systems · 2026-08-16He doesn't like us talking about that. But one of the hyperscalers, by the way, that we know, Gavin, one of the hyperscalers told me they just did a 9-figure double Lindy reverse where they went from doing a frontier model on 100 $1 billion in infrastructure and they're like, bing, it's going to be open source, not Frontier. So people are looking at this saying it's time to bing, maybe move over to some open source models. All right, listen, All In Summit is coming September 13th to 15th in Los Angeles.
