Hilton ($HLT) podcast mentions

  1. Every health system executive right now is being asked to do something that has no useful precedent: make durable technology decisions in an environment that looks meaningfully different every 6 months. The pace isn't slowing, the vendor landscape isn't getting simpler, and the cost of missteps keeps rising. Becker's 11th Annual IT and Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI in Digital Health exists for exactly this challenge. Here you'll find more than 2,500 executive-level attendees, 600 100+ speakers and 4 days of sessions built around the questions leaders are actually wrestling with: how to scale AI responsibly, how to protect increasingly complex systems, how to wring more performance out of the revenue cycle, and how to make tech investments that hold up over time. Join us September 14th through the 17th at the Hilton Chicago. You can register on our events page at beckershospitalreview.com by clicking on the events tab in the upper right.

  3. You know, we bring up California. You're out there. Redistricting worked in the Democrats' favor in California. How does the left look going into that election? I know Steve Hilton is trying to become a Republican governor there. That doesn't happen very often.

  4. Well, I can tell you this, that the pendulum in California is starting to swing back. Is it going to be swinging back enough to get Steve Hilton in office? We don't know. It's very difficult in California for a Republican to take a major office like the governor, because it's controlled by Democrats. I mean, 70% of the legislature is Democrat and they pass the craziest bills. They pass bills that give them more power.

  5. Yeah, I mean, that's the big issue. It's the affordability thing. It's hurting the Republicans because, you know, Trump has been saying the prices are going to come down and they may. And certainly we are taking money in and wages are going up. But for some reason, people, you know, people associate the cost of things with the presidency. They associate that with the top dog. Right. And because the prices haven't come down, it's going to hurt Republicans. It's interesting in California because you have Gavin Newsom blaming Trump for high gas prices when Newsom knows that it's California to blame for high gas prices. They have to import almost all of their oil and gas now. But the taxes are $1.60, $1.67 a gallon in California. California's gas is always $2 to $2.50 more a gallon than anywhere in the country. But you look at housing costs, you look at everything in California, and the unemployment rate is the highest. And California right now is kind of a mess. Steve Hilton has made inroads, but it's going to be really difficult unless the turnout— the Republican turnout in California is astounding. It's going to be very difficult to surmount that.

  7. Yeah, we do. We do. So let's think about scale. Rideshare is a scale business. So what are some of the drivers of of the scale we have. As you said, partnerships is a big part of it. So right now, 1 in every 3 rides is tagged to a partner. Who are those partners? United Airlines. You've heard of DoorDash. You've heard of them. You know, Hilton. You've heard of Chase Sapphire Reserve. You've heard of it. These are big, important companies that are finding real value in year after year after year after year collaborating with Lyft. And I'll give you an example why. Let's say United Airlines. People take in the real world, not folks like you and me, but people take maybe one, two, maybe three trips.

  8. There's also— they cite, I mean, beyond just some of the consumer sentiment numbers in this note, Baird cites potentially warmer weather with the record El Niño pattern, WTI crude back above $100 a barrel, U.S. 10-year Treasury rates around 5%, an uptick in promotions and discounting. Also with a waning sales benefit from the tariff refunds. I mean, all of this, they say, ultimately why earnings expectations look too high on, on this group. But, you know, the continued— I guess there's Hilton recently, Chris Nassetta just had some really bullish comments at an industry conference. So there's the experience economy and then there's everybody else and the experience economy, particularly in travel, still looks good. Bank of America Institute puts out their consumer spending data and they, you know, they put out a new number today that said it's very solid in August. Total card spending per household rising 0.9% month over month, 4.5% year over year. Despite some moderation, discretionary services continue to be really strong.

  9. That is true on a macro level. I do have seen some people raising flags, though, about about the hotel stock performance and how they would not be able to— have not been able to withstand this latest bout of concern around, you know, the consumer. You know, Hilton peaked in June as well. It was, you know, I mean, check Carnival. That's going to be almost $100.
