  4. Visual Intelligence is an AI tool that lets users analyze real-world surroundings using a device's camera. The iPhone maker planned to introduce the new AirPods this year, but the company postponed the product until 2027 due to supply chain and software snags. Now for a look at a few other articles that are trending. We begin with our top story in the newsletter edition of Wall Street Breakfast today: President Trump declares economic D-Day on Iran, and Tehran says the US is in crisis. We have an update to our top story from Wednesday's edition of the Wall Street Breakfast podcast: Reports say a tentative trade deal would cut Canada's steel and aluminum tariffs by half. And Treasury's buyback expansion is not QE. I have a couple of items for you on our Catalyst Watch. Sun Communities will replace Webster Financial in the S&P MidCap 400 before the opening of trading. And Walmart will hold its earnings call at 7 AM. Key topics will include the interaction between tariff refunds and price reinvestment. Notably, Walmart has beat EPS estimates in 15 of the last 16 quarters. Options trading implies a 5% share price move after the report is released. On Wall Street, stock index futures are in the red. Crude oil is up 2.4% at $86 a barrel. Brent crude is up 2.5% at $93. Wolfspeed is on our list of the biggest movers. Wolf is down 10% after the silicon carbide manufacturer reported a wider-than-expected fiscal Q4 adjusted loss of $2.26 per share versus the $1.47 consensus, while revenue rose 24% year-over-year, roughly in line with estimates. And a few items on today's economic calendar: at 8:30 AM, Jobless Claims; also at 8:30 AM, the Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index; and at 10:00 AM, leading indicators. That's it for today's Wall Street Breakfast. Thanks for listening. For a full offering of news, analysis, ratings, and data on stocks and ETFs, become a premium subscriber. 5. Bloomberg Surveillance Linguistics. And we welcome all of you across America with Michael McGlone. Thank you. Merriam-Webster, Springfield, Massachusetts. Not quite in the 92.9 FM. No, like in between. Like, I think it's more SiriusXM. Anyways, Merriam-Webster comes in here. Diane Brady, who is just fabulous. I mean, major cred, business journalist. August of 2025, the dot-com bubble enveloped hundreds of startups that had people bidding for groceries and buying dog food from a sock puppet, few of whom made profits. Mike McGlone down in Miami, how do you define in the financial world a sock puppet?

  7. Welcome to Seeking Alpha's Wall Street Breakfast, where we cover the top news for investors every morning. It's good to have you here on this Friday, August 14th. I'm Julie Morgan. We begin with some changes to the S&P 500 next week. Reddit will replace AvalonBay Communities in the S&P 500 effective prior to the opening of trading on Tuesday, August 18th. Reddit shares are up about 12% on the news in premarket trading. AvalonBay Communities is being acquired by Equity Residential in a deal expected to be completed soon pending final conditions. After the merger, the combined company will be renamed Vivmark Residential and will remain in the S&P 500. Additionally, Sun Communities will replace Webster Financial in the S&P MidCap 400 effective prior to the opening of trading on Thursday, August 20th. Webster is being acquired by another entity in a deal expected to be completed soon. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company on Thursday said global sales of the Pokémon Pokéopia game have surpassed 5 million units across the physical and digital versions, just over 4 months after it was released on March 5th of this year. Shares of Nintendo rose as much as 7.5% in Tokyo on Friday, on course for their third weekly gain. That would be the longest winning streak since November, when the stock began to drop. The game is available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 system. Separately, a Reuters report showed that Nintendo said it would launch the Switch and Switch 2 in Indonesia in December. It would be the first official console launch in the country. Applied Materials is down 5% in premarket action after falling 2.5% on Thursday. Shares are down even after AMAT reported fiscal third-quarter results and guidance that topped Wall Street's forecast, suggesting investors wanted more. But to give you some perspective, shares have gained nearly 98% year-to-date. For the period ending July 26, Applied Materials said it earned an adjusted $3.50 per share as revenue rose 25% year over year to come in at $9.12 billion. Included in that was a 30% hike in semiconductor systems sales to $7.04 billion, while Applied Global Services revenue rose 11% to $1.78 billion. Analysts had expected the company to earn an adjusted $3.42 per share on $9.02 billion in revenue.

  8. Negotiate aggressively, ask for concessions on closing costs, on rate buydowns, on repairs. Don't wait for a 2008-style crash that is not coming. The structural supply shortage in most markets will not allow it. But don't overpay either. In the 38 markets where the sale-to-list ratio is below 100%, time is on your side. Use it. Now, from time to time, we also receive questions via web form from investtalk.com, and here's one that came in from our friend Randall on ticker PLSE. Let's type this in, then I'll read the question. And it says, I have a fairly large position, 3,250 shares, in a company called Pulse Biosciences, ticker PLSE, I have held this stock through a long downturn and trimmed some of the shares in the upswing we had recently. The question is, should I continue to hold, continue to trim, buy more, or get out? It is about 3% of my total portfolio. So before looking at all this, 3% is a perfectly reasonable allocation, uh, of your overall total portfolio to any single stock. So without even looking at it, the, the fact that you have 3% doesn't mean, okay, I need to trim. Now let's dive into this company specifically. PLSE, as I mentioned, is Pulse Biosciences. So they are a bioelectric medicine company. They have nanopulse stimulation, they have ablation technology as well. And so their big thing is this N-Pulse cardiac catheter system for atrial fibrillation, atrial fibrillation, afib. All right, um, that's a huge growing area for a lot of these med tech companies. Abbott has a big division that deals with the catheters, Medtronic, Bicentis Webster, Johnson Johnson. So this falls in, in the category there. Now this company is roughly $3 billion, so a bit of a small cap company revenue, kind of all over the place. $1.4 billion in 2021, $700 million in 2022, zero the next two years, $350 million in '25, projected to be $2.44 billion this year. They haven't made really any money. Their net margin has always been negative. Return on assets, return on equity has been negative. Pretty volatile. I mean, it topped out at $44.15 back in 2020, then it dropped off a cliff to about $1, uh, and since 2022 it has been climbing in a not peaceful way, uh, back up to $44.92, uh, where it's trading today.
