Yes. And of course, narratives are often wrong or ephemeral or go the other direction. And then people like us say, ha, see? So for example, Michael Antonelli tweeted, I want you to take a look at Visa and MasterCard and remember that at one point it was thought crypto was going to disrupt them. Then it was thought that AI would disrupt them. There are absolutely times in the stock market where the collective wisdom makes zero sense. Duh. Of course. Yes. So I understand why people laugh at efficient market theory and say that prices are always right. But as we spoke about last week, the point is not that prices are right at all times. Always. It's just that in real time, it is incredibly difficult, dare I say impossible, to consistently say that prices are always right or always wrong.
Michael Batnick — Animal Spirits Podcast · Are Free Markets Dead? (EP. 479) · 2026-08-26You don't know when people are going to over or underreact. That's the thing. You don't know when investors are going to overreact. And this is the thing with crypto that we talked a couple weeks ago. The sentiment is dead. This feels like a dead asset class. And it took this to get it to like, it's, you don't know when people are going to have that collective, all right, let's do it. Right now is the time to do this. It's funny. Yeah, you're right. Visa and MasterCard both were So they're both breaking out to all-time highs. All-time highs. So the— what was the Citrini piece? Remember they both fell 10, 15% on that? Like that was a great buying opportunity for credit cards.
Ben Carlson — Animal Spirits Podcast · Are Free Markets Dead? (EP. 479) · 2026-08-26Hey, good morning everybody. Welcome back to the Mining Stock Daily Morning Briefing. It is Tuesday, August 25th. There's a lot on the macro front this morning. US-Canada trade talks have broken down. The Pentagon's putting out an urgent call for critical mineral production. And gold is taking a small breather after yesterday's strong session. It's off about 2/10 to $4,642 an ounce. It's a very modest pullback after yesterday's gains, essentially holding the level. Silver is giving back more ground. That's down just over 1% to $68.12. And copper is the bright spot, up 6 tenths to $6.64 a pound. The Defense Industrial Base Consortium has issued a solicitation to U.S. mining and processing companies seeking proposals to fill gaps in domestic production of 4 critical minerals including indium, manganese, magnesium, and titanium. Indium is essential for night vision equipment and semiconductors. Magnesium and titanium go into aircraft structures and armor. And manganese is critical to military-grade steel alloys. The solicitation signals that the Pentagon is now actively hunting for domestic supply, not just hoping it appears. The US-Canada trade negotiations have broken down sharply, with President Trump announcing Monday that tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, and auto parts will jump from 25% to 50% effective January 1st. The escalation follows the collapse of trade talks late last week, with both sides blaming the other for making unreasonable last-minute demands. For the mining sector, a sustained deterioration in those relations raises real questions about cross-border supply chains, processing arrangements, and investment timelines for Canadian projects targeting American end markets. We'll get to the news from the miners and explorers here in just a moment, but first, a quick mention of today's sponsor. This morning briefing is brought to you by Visla Silver. Visla Silver is a Canadian silver developer advancing the Panuco Silver-Gold Project in Sinaloa, Mexico. It's one of the highest-grade, largest-scale silver development projects anywhere in the world. The company published a feasibility study in November of last year outlining a 17.4 million ounces of silver equivalent annual production over an initial 9.4-year mine life. With an after-tax NPV of $1.8 billion US and an IRR of 111%. It hosts a payback period of just 7 months at the base case silver and gold prices. Visa Silver trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange, both under the symbol VZLA.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries met privately with President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner recently to discuss housing, immigration, affordability, and any potential areas of common ground. That's according to the New York Times, which reports those around the president are well aware of the likelihood of a Democratic-led House come November, and they're trying to foster as much of a working relationship as possible before any changes. Jeffries is in line to be Speaker if Democrats win the majority at midterms. New financial disclosures published this weekend show President Trump made more than 1,000 security trades in June, including purchases of Berkshire Hathaway, Vanguard, Visa, and MasterCard. The transactions totaled between $78 and $263 million. But the White House says there aren't any conflicts of interest here because Trump's investments are independently managed. Some of Nvidia's biggest customers have been told now prices of servers containing its artificial intelligence chips are going up. We get more on that from Bloomberg's Ed Kollegi.

Nathan Hager — Bloomberg News Now · Canada Counter-Tariffs, Bessent to Detail Iran 'Economic D-Day,' More · 2026-08-23That's former Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland on Bloomberg this weekend. Sticking points in trade talks include protections for Canadian dairy farmers and bans on the sale of U.S. alcohol in Canada, as well as auto tariffs that left out relief for heavy-duty trucks and commercial vehicles like those going into production at Ford's factory in Toronto. Opting for retaliation also cements Canada as one of just two countries to fight fire with fire in the face of U.S. tariffs. The other is China. But the U.S. risks tensions with Beijing this week as it ramps up economic pressure on Iran as the biggest buyer of Iranian oil. The leader of Iran's top security body is now threatening its neighbors against joining new U.S. efforts to squeeze Tehran's economy. Egypt is trying to revive negotiations between the U.S. and Iran, and Iraq says Iran's helped some ships carrying Iraqi oil transit the Strait of Hormuz. France and Saudi Arabia are expected to discuss plans today on how to bypass that waterway.
