  1. Mandeep Singh with Bloomberg Intelligence. NVIDIA stock is down 1%. An inflation measure closely watched by the Federal Reserve was unchanged last month in the latest sign that many Americans are still struggling with higher costs, giving the Federal Reserve some room to hold interest rates steady in the near term. The Commerce Department's report showed that prices rose 3.7% in July compared with a year earlier. Bath Body Works expects full-year sales to decline between 4% and 2.5% this year. The personal care and fragrance retailer has been trying to turn around its business over the past few years, as the mall staple known for its scented candles and lotions has fallen out of favor with consumers. Bath Body Works is trying to expand its sales channels, including a partnership with Ulta Beauty and selling on Amazon. TWG Global, the holding company at the heart of Mark Walter's empire, is defending itself against what it calls multi-pronged attacks on its business as regulators and prosecutors continue to probe the firm. The company says there has been no fraud and no one has been harmed. The comments come amid investigations into Walter's sprawling investment empire, including potential financial improprieties at two of his insurance companies and at Guggenheim Partners. Democratic-controlled states have filed a lawsuit challenging President Trump's executive order seeking to limit mail voting in the midterm elections. The lawsuit filed against the U.S. Postal Service marks a new phase in the litigation after the Supreme Court ruled against the Democratic states in a separate case. Election officials warn that a new rule governing U.S. Postal Service delivery of mail ballots will be impossible to implement before the first wave of mail ballots are sent out next week. Dozens of people have been killed after a violent flash flood at the border between Nepal and China. Hundreds remain missing, including Americans. 2. Welcome to Seeking Alpha's Wall Street Brunch, our Sunday look ahead to this week's market-moving events, along with the weekend's top news and analysis. Hello, today is Sunday, August 23rd, and I'm your host, Kim Kahn. The summer doldrums disappear with a huge week ahead for stocks and bonds. NVIDIA stars Wednesday with what has become the biggest earnings event on Wall Street. And on Friday, Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh gives his keynote address at the Jackson Hole Symposium at a time when bond vigilantes are stirring. With Nvidia, investors will be looking for updates on AI infrastructure demand, product ramp timing, China exposure, and the economics of the chipmaker's expanding financing partnerships. Options traders are pricing in a roughly 6% move in Nvidia shares following the report. Seeking Alpha analyst Mott Capital said investors and traders may be left with the post-Nvidia earnings hangover again if the numbers are good but not spectacular. "Decline could be sharp, pushing the stock down by as much as 11% to an important area of technical and options-related support at $190, while upside seems limited," they said. The results could reverberate across the semiconductor and AI complex. Marvell Technology, Micron, Arm, and Advanced Micro Devices have all shown some of the closest trading correlations with Nvidia following earnings. Here's how the rest of the earnings calendar shapes up: PDD Holdings and XPeng report Monday. Intuit reports Tuesday. On Wednesday, NVIDIA is joined by CrowdStrike, Salesforce, HP, and Okta. Marvel and Ulta Beauty report Thursday. Looking to Jackson Hole, Warsh will speak at 10:00 AM Eastern time Friday. At his last press conference, Warsh indicated that higher Treasury yields were doing the job of tightening financial conditions for the Fed. But since then, higher yields have spooked the White House, leading Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant to boost buybacks of longer-dated debt in an attempt to tamp down rates. Seeking Alpha analyst Geneva Investor says the two men want opposite things in the long end. Bessant wants the 10-year and 30-year lower and has said so repeatedly, they said. Warsh wants a smaller Fed footprint concentrated on the front end of the yield curve, which mechanically raises the long end. Bessant wants a large FIMA facility, which expands the balance sheet. Warsh wants a $6.7 trillion balance sheet to come down.

  4. You raise something interesting. We've got, yes, Ulta up, but look what also is up in two it. That's a company that's been supposed— that's supposed to have been savaged by AI. GoDaddy, that's a company that's really supposed to be savaged by AI, even though Walton Goggins, as we all love, is their spokesperson. And then Veeva, that's supposed to be just decimated by AI. And then instead what we've got is all the Leopold names and Seagate, Applied Materials. Leopold, man, he lives—

  5. It was exciting back then. And that's also when the stock reached new multi-year highs and It actually looked like the thesis was playing out even earlier than I expected, but then we slowly but surely started to see some yellow flags. And since I want to do this episode to sort of evaluate why and when things actually went wrong, I think this is where I would start. So on paper, things still look pretty great, and perhaps I would've made the same decision of buying PayPal today under the same circumstances of last year. I honestly don't really know still to this day. I think on one hand, I didn't go for a value play like PayPal since that and focused more on these quality compounder companies, perhaps in an earlier stage. So, you know, talk MELI or talk DLocal, which we covered just a couple of weeks ago. On the other hand though, many of our previous value plays that we did buy for our portfolio, so, you know, I'm thinking about companies like Crocs, but also Ulta Beauty and even Nike, where we also made a double-digit return, they worked out quite nicely. So, I'm still not quite sure whether I just totally want to turn my back on those sort of opportunities. But getting back to PayPal, between Q3 and Q4 of last year, several things made me question what exactly is going on. So the first one was the biggest one, communication, right? When you followed managers that were responsible for specific business units, they were always very enthusiastic and they had plenty to say. So Margarita, for example, was responsible for the ads business, he was very outspoken and talking about how the world things are going.
