Matt, I want you to put your farmer hat on just for a second. Think about your MAP and DAP or your dry fertilizer that you might normally put on in the fall. How worried are you about phosphate? And how much do you believe that producers will cut back? For instance, Josh Linville from StoneX is of a mind that half of that demand will just go away because the price is so darn high and producers will believe that they can get by without it.
Todd Gleason — Commodity Week · Jul 30 | Commodity Week · 2026-07-30Wow. All right. We are here. We are joined by Catherine Rooney Vera, who's the chief market strategist at StoneX Group. A lot of views on bond markets, everything in macro. I mean, we can get to currencies and bonds. Catherine had a very strong call that the Federal Reserve would not hike today. The market thought there was like a 30% chance, or that was at least what was priced into the market. I happen to agree with you, Catherine. I thought that those odds were far too high, and it appears that you were right. I mean, we know that you were right. So congratulations on the good call. I wonder, why do you think the market thought that they were going to hike?
Jack Farley — Monetary Matters with Jack Farley · Mum’s The Word: Kathryn Rooney Vera on Fed’s Second Meeting under Kevin Warsh, Plus Earnings Breakdown (Live Replay) · 2026-07-29This is the July 16 edition of Commodity Week. Welcome to Commodity Week. I am Todd Gleason in Kansas City, Missouri at the NAFB this week, the National Association of Farm Broadcasting. Today our panelists include Mike Zuzolo at GlobalComResearch.com out of Atchison, Kansas, and Arlan Suderman from StoneX from right here in Kansas City, Missouri. Commodity Week, of course, is a production of Illinois Public Media. Is public radio for the farming world online on demand at willag.org. Mike Zuzolo, GlobalComResearch.com out of Atchison, Kansas. Thank you for joining us here in Kansas City for a National Association of Farm Broadcasting event. I knew that you and Arlan Suderman, who we'll talk with in just a moment, will be up in front of all of the farm broadcasters talking about the marketplace. I'm sure you've thought deeply about what the message should be for them. What's the bottom line? And then we'll get into some of the specifics.
Todd Gleason — Commodity Week · Jul 16 | Commodity Week · 2026-07-17It is fantastic to have you here at the NAFB event in Kansas City. Now let's turn our attention to Arlan Suderman. He is with StoneX Harlan, thank you for being with us. What is your plan for the NAFBers that are in attendance today?
Todd Gleason — Commodity Week · Jul 16 | Commodity Week · 2026-07-17Arlan Suderman, of course, is with StoneX. Mike Zuzolo is with globalcomresearch.com. I talked with both of them at the National Association of Farm Broadcasters event, the Summer Showcase in Kansas City. You've been listening to Commodity Week from Illinois Public Media. It is public radio for the farming world, online on demand at uillag.org. I'm University of Illinois Extension's Todd Gleason.
Todd Gleason — Commodity Week · Jul 16 | Commodity Week · 2026-07-17Because they want to get it right. They'd rather be launching something later that makes sense, that has been vetted, than rush to put something out that their user base becomes disenchanted with. It's really all about their brand and the iOS and iPhone ecosystem. So historically, we like Apple. It's good business. Right now though, and you saw that yesterday, it was Tim Cook announced that they're raising prices on MacBooks, iPads, all different types of products. Which will, will hurt demand. And that's because of the higher input costs of memory and chips and everything that is now moving— that capacity tends to move towards being put into AI data centers. I think long-term, a lot of AI compute will happen on the edge, meaning on device, and less where it has to go out to the data center for this compute. And Apple's well suited with their M-series chips to, I think, be a big player there. So I, I— we're looking for a place to gain entry into Apple. We like Apple, and I'll continue to buy it on market pullbacks. Thanks for the call. So yesterday we had a great show. We looked into the story about minimum wage and inflation and what higher labor costs really mean for your portfolio. We also answer questions, listen to a question on StoneX, S-N-E-X, that was submitted via the YouTube channel. And if you happen to miss it, go check it out. Best way to get every show is to follow Invest Talk wherever you get your podcasts. Now we have a lot of ground to cover over the next 45 minutes or so, and time permitting, we'll get to all of it. Our main focus point is about hedging currency risk in a time where there's a lot of geopolitical volatility, a lot of economic volatility, volatility in the commodity markets that can help some countries, can hurt other countries, all of that. The, the currency risk is higher than it normally is. So we're going to talk about what's going on overseas, especially in In Japan, the yen is near the 40-year low. Is that a good thing or a bad thing for global markets? So we'll talk about those currency moves. We also want to discuss— I do want to discuss kind of in relation to that Apple question, which is how much inflation is the data center boom sparking in the broader economy, not just in chips, but things like electricity, worker wages that work in those industries to build out AI data centers, and much, much more. So we'll talk about that. And then if we have time, how good are these AI traders? There's some recent studies there. It's called the Crystal Ball Challenge, and we'll dig into the data coming out of that study as well. We also have voice bank questions. One is on selling covered calls, and the other is on NuScale Power Corporation, SMR. We also have some questions that came in via the comment section on the Invest Talk YouTube channel as well. But we're gonna head into a quick break. Please remember, you can call us anytime and leave your question on the Invest Talk Voice Bank. But if you're listening via our live stream or possibly on AM 1220 in the Bay Area, you can call right now at 888-99-CHART. Up next, I'll comment on today's market activity.
Justin Klein — InvestTalk · Should You Hedge Currency Risk? The Dollar, Yen, and Rupee in a Shifting Global Order · 2026-06-27Let's go answer a YouTube comment question. We says, can you please help me with S-N-E-X? S as in Sam, N as in Nancy, E as in Edward, X as in x-ray. Stone X Group. Okay, this is interesting. Provide brokerage and financial services, commercial hedging, global payments, securities, physical commodities clearing, execution. Okay, yeah, so physical commodities, I like that. Global payments. Earnings this year are supposed to be $6.15, up from $3.93 last year, $6.27 next year. So in a time where there's not a free-flowing of commodities around the world, globalization is not as strong as it used to be. There's a lot of hedging going on, hedging on price volatility. That's certainly helping a name like StoneX, about $10 billion market cap, $19.5 billion Sorry, 19.5% return on equity, very solid. Free cash flow, $10 billion.
