  1. So the safety features that we have here, Meta is required to do that across Instagram and Facebook, and that's for 5 years regardless. But the part that is key about about getting other parts of the industry on board here is that if we have the same results for the interventions with Snapchat, with TikTok, with YouTube, then it will extend for 10 years. And not only that, the 2-hour time limit will reduce to 1 hour. So this is regardless of these other platforms. This is going to happen with Facebook and Instagram. Everything you see here, if we're able to, to, to bring that pressure and that enforcement that we do all the time. I mean, this has been a 5-year endeavor that New Jersey has co-led. And we are going to do that. We are not stopping now. Certainly this is the era of holding big tech accountable. We only will see additional and longer, longer safeguards as well as limited times.

  2. Yeah, I mean, to really understand how Meta ended up here, we kind of have to look at what this was about. So you had a coalition of state attorneys general that sued Meta, and they accused the company of deliberately designing Facebook and Instagram to be addictive to children. And it pointed to— the lawsuits point to a wide range of features: infinite scrolling, algorithmic recommendations, constant push notifications. Um, we saw recently that New Mexico had won a separate trial against Meta, and a federal judge in California was actually about to drag Zuckerberg himself to the witness stand. In fact, we saw, I believe it was just yesterday, the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, had testified. So now Meta has agreed to a $17 billion settlement to resolve the claims of 47 states. Now, Meta is not going to be just cutting one check. They're actually paying a $12 billion baseline amount, and that's going to be distributed to the states to fund youth mental health, addiction recovery programs. But the remaining billions, about $5 billion, actually only kicks in if Meta's top competitors—think, you know, TikTok, YouTube, of course owned by Alphabet, Snap—also settle with the states and agree to face similar financial penalties. So that's a very interesting element of the settlement. Now, aside from the financial element of it, the settlement binds Meta to an independent auditor with data access to ensure that they are, you know, adhering, uh, to the terms of this agreement. It also— the settlement enforces sweeping permanent product changes across the US that specifically protect different age brackets. For example, uh, new age verification tools for children under 13, uh, daily, uh, 2-hour time limits for teenagers under 18, uh, silencing of push notifications. So a, a lot of changes there for young users. Um, the way a lot of the states' attorneys general are framing it is the largest state consumer protection settlement in history outside of the big tobacco deals of the 1990s. It does very much change the internet for minors moving forward.

  3. Yeah, I, I've never seen anything like this. I know there have been other on-campus operations of varying sizes, and, and I've heard of cases in North Carolina and in a couple other states on university campuses, but nothing— it seemed like the magnitude of this one. This one seemed to be, uh, quite expansive. And again, they feel that using technology, whether it's Snapchat and TikTok— you know, I hearken back to the early '90s when gaming Platforms, gaming consoles were the means that drug traffickers would communicate on because they knew the police were listening in on hard lines. And then when cell phones became de rigueur, they knew that we were getting warrants and capturing their conversations there, their dirty conversations. So they moved it onto gaming platforms, like any of the Xbox and things like that. This is just the next step. We're always in law enforcement playing catch up. The bad guys do something and then we react to it. It's very difficult to be predictive in this business, but we need to do a better job of it. But in this instance, again, when you're dealing with young kids, and I don't know anything about their backgrounds to assume that they're kids that come from wealth and privilege, they're going to an expensive university like that, but they have all the opportunities in the world and then they make a stupid mistake like this. And lastly, Peter, yeah, I understand the bloodline ties and wanting to protect your kid or wanting to support your kid, but representing them at trial, I don't know if that's something I would ever advocate for a to do?

  4. Claire and I and a couple of our parent friends, Snap has turned into the, like, tamer way of just sending pictures of silly things our kids are doing. Like, like the one where it doesn't deserve a whole chat thread or, like, muck up the group chat that we have between our friends, but it's just like a 'Look what Lane's doing right now. Like, look what my kid's doing right now. It's kind of funny, but like, if you don't see this, I don't really care.' Yeah, that's what Snap is for.

  5. I'm sorry, I was thinking about something else. I was like, 'Ellis, no, no, is it federated?' He was baiting me. Yeah, it should be like email. It should be an open protocol so you could Snap between Instagram and Snapchat just so I could have like, yeah, con—

  6. Yeah, I'm looking at Snap-on as well, uh, down about $30, I guess, since, uh, since the 4th of the month.

  7. We had a lot of players, athletes from the NBA, the NFL, and the MLB and so forth that have started to use their Genies naturally on Instagram, on Snapchat, and TikTok. So by the time we formalized these deals with the players associations, it was kind of a formality. Like a lot of these players already leverage us. Now, some players are a lot more inclined and want to be able to, you know, utilize like this full capability. Some of them are like, let me do a crawl, walk, run, right? Like you can imagine, like this spans everything. Like right now we're talking about entertainment and media. But really, like, we feel like this is going to dominate all different sectors, enterprise, creators, and more as well.

  8. Yeah, we talked to Jonathan Kanter earlier this morning about whether they would be asked or forced to delete some of their data. You know that the, the offices of YouTube and TikTok and Snap are going to be watching this one very closely. Julia, we'll keep at it with your help. That's our Julia Borsten. As we're close to actually rebounding just a little bit, we recovered 7700, but a lot of moving pieces, even with yields down from session highs.
