Um, yeah, I have, I have a hot take about Tensor. Can I, can I talk about Tensor? Hot take, please. Okay. I think that people think about like SoCs and CPUs differently than Google thinks about SoCs and CPUs. I agree. And I think that people always look at Tensor and they compare it to like a Snapdragon chip and you can't compare the chips very much. I know. How can? I mean, you can in certain ways. That's what I'd say if I was losing. You can in certain ways because like obviously the gaming performance, the FPS, whatever, that's all whatever. But Google's been hyper-optimizing for TPUs for like a while, like ever since Tensor 1. That's the, that's part of the reason they made Tensor in the first place was because they were like, oh, we need to do AI performance, AI performance. Notably in Tensor 6, it's 2x the memory bandwidth for Gemini. So they're just like hyper-fixated on this world where your phone is like automating things for you, automating tasks, doing things, you know, natural language processing, that kind of stuff. Rambler local model. Yeah. Gemini Nano, that kind of stuff. And I know that Qualcomm also optimizes for this stuff, but it's not the 100% flagpost thing that Google is thinking about for. So when you, when we look at Tensor 6, it's like 2x the memory bandwidth for LLMs and stuff like that, you know, like 2x the TPUs. Big deal for them. Um, there's a new ISP in there that allows them to do new image signal processing stuff that enables the things like the 30x zoom in the regular Pixel 11 and the 120x zoom in the 11 Pros. Pro zoom. So I don't know, I think Google just thinks about when we make these things new every year, how can it enable more AI stuff? Whereas every other company is just like faster. That's—

Performance. Yeah, not a— not— I bet most people, it's not— it's most of us, it's us eyeballing it. But the fact that I could eyeball it means there's some amount of people. Yeah, yeah. Um, and then you'd play a game and you'd be like, oh, it's heating up a lot more. It's actually a way worse performance. Yeah, that's— it was interesting. Now I just wonder how noticeable— like, are we gonna hit a cap with Qualcomm chips where they're like, oh my God, yeah, look how far AI came. Yeah, focusing on frame rates. Like, we'll see.
Marques — Waveform_ The MKBHD Podcast · We Skipped the Pixel Event · 2026-08-14So looking into 2027, that makes us a lot more, I would say, cautious on NVIDIA because I think NVIDIA has the most to lose from the switch this shift towards more ASIC adoption because now for the first time ever Nvidia is going to have to be forced to share a part of the AI accelerator market with ASICs, right? From an 80 to 90%— those are the current estimates— 80 to 90% market share, uh, is, is going to be pressured. And so I think that's what keeps us more on the sidelines of Nvidia thinking about it into next year, uh, because at the end of the day I think the AI CapEx is going to have to be spent across all of these players. I, I got a second thought. I just want to emphasize, that's where we like guys like Marvell, right? Because when these hyperscalers are going for ASICs, they're multi-sourcing. No one wants to have all their eggs in one basket, similarly to how they were forced to, to have all their eggs in one basket, uh, at the beginning of the AI boom with Nvidia. So everyone is trying to multi-source. Google went with Broadcom, then MediaTek, and then Marvell, uh, and, and now, you know, we have new ASIC players entering the scene like Qualcomm, uh, and so I think that's where the 2027 conversation is leading towards. So that's where I would pay attention for investors kind of trying to gauge how to think about the semis for next year.

And I was like, I don't know how it happened. But, um, you know, that hasn't happened since then, but it, it was a thing that a lot of people had issues with at the time. So, you know, they did the repairability last year. So, you know, hardware-wise, you have a slightly faster Qualcomm chip in here. Cool.
