  1. If you've been on X over the last few days, you probably noticed that things have gotten very weird when it comes to modded video games. There are clips of Call of Duty operators doing kick flips and other tricks from Skate. People playing Black Ops 1 Zombie Mode and Skyrim. Miles Morales swinging through Gotham. Here's another add to the list. Someone has gotten the Xbox version of Halo: Combat Evolved running in a web browser with multiplayer and split-screen support. And the other funny thing is that it's not— they didn't— apparently the Halo community doesn't like the PC release of Halo, so they ported the Xbox version to the cloud browser. It's like, you can really do anything you want now. And so, Ben Thompson goes on to describe a little bit of what's going on. He— games are written in human-readable languages, C, C++, obviously there's scripting languages on top of that, but then they're compiled into machine code that's executable by the processor that they're intended for. For Halo, that's x86.

  2. No fear of heights or anything? I feel like if you have a clear view, like, I mean, I guess you always leave yourself open to a taller building popping up and blocking your view, and that's one of the advantages of being extra high. But I feel like a view like this looks a little bit lower, but maybe I just have the perspective all wrong. I don't know. Let me know. What do you think of the new passport? People were going back and forth on it. Paul MacGregor was saying, "If I was redesigning the COVID of what is arguably the country's most important public document, I'd first hire both the best to possibly "Typographer and crest designer money can buy, then fiddle about with the layouts, probably." And Joe Gebbia fires back, "Hi, when you're done finding— when you're done fiddling, please send me resume of top crest designer. Make sure they can do better than the 1782 official national anthem." It looks like a very— National emblem. National emblem. Yeah, the redesign looks like a very tasteful and moderate iteration.

  3. All right. I think we— one thing that we're not saying, but we have said it before, I think the MAG7 is defensive in a way that utilities and consumer staples are not. So historically, people would look at like, well, what's the XLP doing versus the XLY? So they could see like consumer staples versus discretionary. I don't really think consumer staples are terribly defensive. I think they're rate sensitive. People choose between the dividend they get there or an interest rate from somewhere else.

  4. Bloomberg's Greg Storr reports Alito is the second oldest justice on the High Court behind fellow conservative Clarence Thomas. Drone maker Anduril Industries is investing $3.7 billion to build a new shipbuilding facility in Maryland to enhance the Navy's nuclear-powered submarine production. The facility at Sparrows Point, just outside Baltimore, is expected to begin operations in 2030 and employ about 3,100 people. People when fully operational. Governor Westmoreland is not there. He says he was blocked from speaking at the event by President Trump, who plans to highlight the investment. The head of Mark Walters Insurance Companies told authorities he did not know the firms had loaned more than $20 billion to the billionaire's other businesses. Sources tell Bloomberg Dan Torres, the CEO of Walters Delaware Life Insurance Company and Clear Spring Life and Annuity, made the statements in a voluntary interview with federal prosecutors in August. That's news when you want it with Bloomberg News.

  5. People are going to the movies again. You have stuff like The Odyssey, you know, you have had smash hits since the pandemic. I mean, Warner Brothers had the Barbie movie in 2023. You know, there are these bright spots, but there still is a lot of uncertainty, and I think there's a huge concern in the industry that this merger will result in layoffs and job cuts.

  6. But we had never, you know, we priced our cuts on all the airlines today. But I guess people just feel any tick down in oil makes it so people want to be in. People are looking to— they want to buy something other than Marvell and AMD. Intel. Remember how people think, David? They can't just say, I can't come in every single day and buy the same stocks. But the people who come in every single day and buy the same stocks are crushing. So what do you do? Hey, today's the day I'm gonna diversify and we'll pick up some, a good chemical company. What do you got for me?

  8. Yeah, they're really fun. People have also started watching our YouTube videos, like, finally after 3 years. Uh, like, um, as in, like, some of our recent videos have had several thousand or, like, 20,000 views, things like that. Whereas I think the first 2 years it was a lot of, like, okay, 600 people watch this. So that's very cool. I think that we always wanted to be, like, multi-platform. Platform, like do the journalism and then have it live in a bunch of different places, which is like— shout out to Evie, who couldn't be here because she's on vacation. So good for her to be on vacation.

  9. Oh God, no. Um, all right, so this story actually— people got, people got really fired up about this story. In what way? I mean, people were, people were excited about it. People called it clickbait. People said, give me this. Yeah. Um, yeah, I said give me this. Yeah.

  11. And we can't say that that's an idle concern. We don't know. And at this point, we've We've not seen evidence that that's happening in any big way, but it's certainly a possibility. People are well aware of it. And yes, I think that has compounded or has been an additional factor on top of, of those others that, that I mentioned earlier.

  12. Planet Labs reported month a month ago, they delivered a healthy top and bottom line beat, 58% revenue growth. Wow. Defense intelligence revenue grew more than 90%. Commercial revenue was up more than 15%. Civil government gained more than 5%. I wish that had been bigger, but they made $0.02 a share when the Street was looking for a loss of $0.02. Not eye-popping profits, but it's important to note they did indeed make a profit. Clearly, defense is doing the heavy lifting here. Revenue from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa increased more than 130%. Because countries in the region can't afford to stand on intelligence. I think commercial opportunities for Planet Labs are enormous too, but so far the uptake has been much lower than I thought. Unfortunately, despite the strong results, Planet's guidance for the current quarter came in light. Some Swedish satellite program revenue arrived early, boosting the second quarter at the third quarter's expense. People didn't like that. Longer term, for the fiscal year ending in January 2027, Planet raised the lower end of its revenue forecast. The new range implies 40-42% growth.

  13. No, no, ING is good. I think ING is fine. People are very worried about Europe right now because of France. I think ING is good. I'm going to make it a twofer. I know there's a snap election in Spain, but I happen to like Banco Santander very much too. I think you're in good shape.

  15. Nothing popular here, although he does get, relatively speaking, his best or least bad numbers on immigration and border security, 39, 58, you see there. But negative all around for the president on those key areas. Then you take a look here, uh, specifically have his economic policies helped or hurt. Again, we see this with all voters, Overwhelmingly Latino voters saying his policies have hurt. Interestingly, I think there is a tendency here— I apologize if it's not popping up. I can just say, I can tell you, Kelly, you often hear folks when they say, you know, why is the president struggling with Hispanic voters? People will gravitate towards immigration as the explanation. Obviously, the stepped-up ICE enforcement— the ICE enforcement is not popular with Latino voters in our poll at all, as we see with all voters. What is interesting, though, and I was trying to show here, was because when you ask Latino voters to rank their most important issue, it is not immigration. Immigration's down in the single digits. It is inflation and it's the economy.
