Let's check in with our next guest, Nancy Lazar, chief global economist at Piper Sandler. Nancy, thanks so much for joining us here. I love— and I think our listeners would love to get your thoughts on what we heard from the Federal Reserve last week. The hike started, came in. We had a 25 basis point hike as the market was anticipating. What else did you take away from the Fed meeting?
Paul Sweeney · Bloomberg Surveillance · Second Half Economic Outlook · 2026-09-21Welcome back. Stocks wavering a bit this morning, but the major averages do remain near record levels, driven of course in recent weeks by stellar earnings. Our next guest though says the pressure to continue to deliver solid results might put some firms at risk. Joining us here at Post 9 this morning, Michael Kantrowitz, Piper Sandler Chief Investment Strategist. —pretty interesting note on, I guess, the cycles of accounting and how in some periods the accounting gets more aggressive than others. Right. Where are we right now? Yeah, we're—
Carl Quintanilla · Squawk on the Street · 10AM Hour: Nvidia’s $500B Deal with Wall Street, GXO Logistics CEO, The Next Test for the AI Trade 8/11/26 · 2026-08-11Nvidia, though, two-month high, holding $219 here pretty well so far this morning. Christina, thanks. Christina, sticking with SpaceX, Elon Musk's company posting top and bottom line beats in the first earnings report since going public. Carl Quintanilla · Squawk on the Street · 11AM Hour: Mattel & Kraft Heinz CEOs on Earnings, SpaceX Shares Tumble & AI Hacks Intensify 8/5/26 · 2026-08-05Morning there, Carl. Yeah, that decision means that Follarin Balogun can play in tonight's game against Belgium. And look what happened on Calcio. Belgium went from being favored to win to USA taking the lead. I mean, maybe that's why Belgium is furious. Its coach called this an April Fool's joke. European soccer officials accused FIFA of crossing a red line. They called the decision unprecedented, incomprehensible, unfair and unjustifiable. Now, Belgium can appeal, but there is no wagering market on that. Why? My sportsbook sources tell me it's largely understood that an appeal will not work, that FIFA has already cleared Balogun to play. The betting markets went wild, though. FanDuel told me as of yesterday, Balogun had pulled in 4 times the handle or amount wagered of the next most popular goalscorer Christian Pulisic. And USA is pulling in by far the most wagers, 85% of bets, 89% of handle, which means Team USA wins are great for the customers but really tough on the house. Prediction markets, they just charge a fee, so they win on volume. And what volume it is. Kaoshi tells me the World Cup winner market has surpassed $1 billion in volume. That's Calci's highest ever market. Piper Sandler analyst Patrick Moley just out with a new note this morning pointing to Calci's weekend trading volume of more than $5 billion. That's just this weekend, up 45% month over month. Polymarkets up 24%. Remember, CNBC and Calci have a commercial relationship, including a minority investment and customer acquisition. This is a big deal, guys. Caesars told me that they keep setting records on these soccer markets that it is inspiring such enthusiasm in the USA.
Contessa Brewer · Squawk on the Street · 10AM Hour: BNY CEO on Trump Accounts, Chip Stocks Rebound, Trump calls FIFA President Over Red Card 7/6/26 · 2026-07-06So what does Wall Street make of all this? The analyst consensus is a bit mixed, actually. Looking at the most recent 20 ratings, we've got a handful of buys and outperforms from shops like RBC Capital, Jefferies, TD Cowen. Canter Fitzgerald, and Piper Sandler. But there's also a significant neutral camp. JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, Keefe, Bruyette Woods all sitting at neutral or equal weight.
