Where does a lot of the talent come from? Because I was specifically asking and thinking of like, I was just in London and I was covering a lot about how I think someone said, they called it like the new Palo Alto in terms of like how close all of these European capital cities are to each other. But I know also in the London ecosystem, they have all of these universities, you know, where it's like you just go to Cambridge in 45 minutes and get like a really, like, really smart person or something. And so when it comes to Stockholm too, like, what is kind of the setup in terms of the talent pool?
Dominique Midori-Davis — Equity · From the Spotify Mafia to the Lovable Mafia: inside Stockholm's founder network · 2026-08-26Sure, well, the thing that makes them the most special is just the quality of providers we put in them. And we have some phenomenal partners in the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group, and they've done a wonderful job of recruiting and building the medical staff of the future for us. So that's number one. Number two is, you know, as we think about the locations, we've really targeted locations that, make it more convenient for patients in the communities we serve. We recognize that Silicon Valley has a lot of subgeographies and travel can be difficult. Even 10 miles of travel in Silicon Valley can take you a long time. So we try to be close to the patients and most convenient and design our facilities for really easy access. And then finally, we're developing these advanced care centers where we're going to provide wraparound care. Where you can come in, it's kind of, think of it as one-stop shopping, where if you have a particular need in cardiology, women's services, orthopedics, oncology, that you can come in and you can be assured that you're gonna have all the providers you need under one roof, and that that care will be coordinated and be provided to you in a way that you feel very comfortable that all the specialties you need are under one roof and available to you immediately. So, It's a combination of things, but we feel very good about the path we're on. And especially as we think about South Bay and Santa Clara, some of the investments we're making there in those advanced care centers, we really feel will be differential and generational in the community.
Kevin Cook — Becker’s Healthcare Podcast · Kevin Cook, MSBA, President of the Greater Silicon Valley Market at Sutter Health · 2026-08-25This is, this might not sound like a big deal, but it's the, the most stressful process when it comes to moving to the US is like, what is the right visa? What do I qualify for? Like, you know, who's gonna write a recommendation letter for me? And those are things that we can, we help a lot of founders with. We actually investors in a visa company, AI-native visa company called Extraordinary. And through Extraordinary, we partner a lot on helping these founders come to the US to make sure that they have the right qualifications or help them understand what are the things that they need to to come to the US as fast as possible. The other thing is that there's a lot of hacker houses that started abroad, but now they have created campuses, to use Angela's analogy, campuses in the US where they offer free rooms for people to stay for a short period amount of time. We sponsor this one called Palo House. So this company We met them at Slush, which is a big event that happens in Finland. And then, you know, there was this really 4 smart students from CDTM, which is one of the best programs in Germany. And they had this idea of like, hey, we want to have a house in Palo Alto and we want to bring the smartest people that we know to stay with us in Palo Alto and help them ideate. So we decided to sponsor this house and, you know, over a period of 4 months. And over 4 months, they crowded the house too much. They received, I believe, through dinners and everybody that stayed, it was like 1,200 people that ended up staying. Through that, we actually ended up meeting really exceptional people that we stay in touch with.
Gabriel Vasquez — The a16z Show · How Global Networks Are Reshaping Startup Success · 2026-08-20How's this, Mr. Brockman, OpenAI, and you talk to Anthropic, they're going to say the same thing that we really have to worry much more about cybersecurity. Now, back in February, we had Anthropy telling us you don't have to worry because we can take care of it. That was ridiculous. Even the insurance companies won't let the same company doing the model, therefore do the protection. But TD Cowen, and this is a good example of coming in higher, recommends that we buy Palo Alto, which is a club name, and CrowdStrike. Palo Alto $175 goes to $235. CrowdStrike $360 goes to $400. Because these are the companies that really— they have the technology to protect us. You know, this is again an example. Do you come in at 170%? This is a market that I wrote this weekend is different from any other because we always heard this— the most dangerous words are this time is different and you never buy stocks up this much. But we have this problem. And the problem is, is that the earnings are exploding for these companies. So therefore, we have to take the P/Es up. Even if we don't want to, we take the P/Es up. The P/Es are so low— not— well, these are historically high P/Es, but they're lower than we've seen them. And then when you look at a company like Micron, the P/E could be incredibly low. And so what are you going to do? Just say, you know what, this is like Ford Motor, Ford Motor and Micron, same? No, no, it's not.
Jim Cramer — Squawk on the Street · 9AM Hour: Memory Chips Rally, Anthropic's AI Boost, Trump's Message on Iran War and Gas Prices 8/17/26 · 2026-08-17Did you know, Jordy, it's now cheaper to buy It's now cheaper to buy a private island than a house in Palo Alto.
John Coogan — TBPN · Tesla’s Roadster, Car Week Takes, Unwell Beverages Shuts Down | Diet TBPN · 2026-08-15Yeah. No, it's actually cheaper to buy a private island than a house in Palo Alto. Earlier this week, Chris Backe highlighted a real estate listing for a 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom, 5,000-square-foot home in Palo Alto asking $16.5 million. We got to pull a picture of this thing because it doesn't look like a $16 million house. And I think that's why this image from Chris Backe went so viral, because it specifically looks just like a normal house that might be a million dollars or $3 million. And so, I mean, 5,500 square feet, that's a lot. And Palo Alto is obviously on an absolute tear on the back of the AI boom. But $16.5 million is a lot of money. And you can get a private island for this shape. Yeah, it just looks like one normal house, please, to me, right?
John Coogan — TBPN · Tesla’s Roadster, Car Week Takes, Unwell Beverages Shuts Down | Diet TBPN · 2026-08-15at this price, it's like— like— like you could actually be driving like a hypercar. For like 10% of the house price. If you live in a $1.6 million house and you drove a $50,000 car, no one would be like, "Oh, wow, that's so crazy," right? But if you live in a $16 million house and you drive a $500,000 car, people would be like, "Okay, that kind of matches." Except you pull up to this thing in a Revuelto or something, or an SF90, and people are like, "What? You don't even have a garage to park it in." Anyway, the result is an absurd new benchmark for Silicon Valley housing prices. There are actual private islands around the world that cost less than a house in Palo Alto. In June, a 4.5-acre private island on North Carolina's Lake Norman sold for $12.5 million.
John Coogan — TBPN · Tesla’s Roadster, Car Week Takes, Unwell Beverages Shuts Down | Diet TBPN · 2026-08-15So this— so this 4.5-acre private island in North Carolina sold for $12.5 million, and it includes a roughly 13,000-square-foot mansion on it. It was originally purchased in the '90s for $1.5 million. The Financial Times also reported in March on a 600-acre private island in Fiji listed for $12 million. That island comes with a 6-bedroom residence built near its highest point with panoramic ocean views, along with a library, barbecue area, and swimming pool. There are also 5 beaches, staff quarters, and a deep-water jetty. If 600 acres for your private island is a little excessive, there's another option in Fiji. Mansion Global reported in March that the founder of a cannabis company and his wife were selling Vava, a 75-acre private island That is so many acres. Even 75 acres is so much for $15 million. Still $1.5 million less than the Palo Alto house. So if you are in Palo Alto, you really got to negotiate for remote work because you could be working from Fiji. The good folks over at the Acquired FM, Acquired Podcast revealed a very interesting fact that we wanted to share here. The highest grossing piece of entertainment ever isn't Avatar, Avengers, it's not Titanic, it's not Seinfeld, it's not even Grand Theft Auto. It's The Lion King musical. Perfect. It's The Lion King musical. The Lion King musical is the highest grossing piece of media entertainment ever. Absolutely insane. Since debuting on Broadway in November of 1997, Disney's stage adaptation has grossed more than $11 billion worldwide, maybe more than $10 billion. It's a ton. It's the highest-grossing stage production ever, and by box office revenue, it's the highest-grossing entertainment title in history. For comparison, Avatar is the highest-grossing movie ever, has made only $3 billion at the global box office. The Lion King passed the previous record holder, The Phantom of the Opera, all the way back in 2014 when it cumulative gross was already $6.2 billion. I had no idea there was so much money in Broadway. So the question everyone's asking, how is this even possible? Like, yeah, The Lion King musical, it's popular, but Avatar was like a cultural moment. Everyone saw it. But it's because The Lion King musical is not just one show. It's much more complicated than that. It's this entertainment machine. So since 1997, there have been—
