  1. I totally disagree with the narrative of the field. I just out and out say that when physics in 1983, physics made sense. In 1984, it did not. It was very stark and it was like overnight, more or less 3 people Leonard Susskind, David Gross, and Edward Witten drove the field in a totally different direction. And now the achievement of this has not been any advance in our knowledge of the physical world, but it has been something that no one knew was possible. You take the field in which Edward Teller and J. Robert Oppenheimer and Richard Feynman and Stanislav Ulam created the most terrifying weapons, from SU U gauge theory, and you've made it safe. It is now safe to do physics with your geopolitical rivals. You can invite your friends from China to come and become graduate students in your department, and you will fill their heads with things about ADS/CFT that couldn't hurt a fly because there's no physics in it. So the question is, did I, Is this a secret program?

  2. Yeah. Yeah, it's what we— it's kind of what we do, right? We look for the signs. I'm hopeful that we will pull ourselves back from the edge. We've managed to. I thought my brother's movie Oppenheimer ends brilliantly with that warning, right? It's not over yet. We haven't solved this problem yet. We may still yet destroy the world. And I think it's incredibly important for us to remember that always. And that's why working on a show like Fallout, the timing sadly felt good because as a gentle reminder that, okay, it may be amusing to live in the wasteland. I don't think any of us watch that show and wish to live in that world, or I hope no one wishes to live in that world. And so I think, you know, with some thoughtfulness and a little compassion and maybe some slightly better heuristics for social media, we might make it.

  3. Jon Stolfes joins us, chief investment strategist at Oppenheimer. We just had on Margi Patel, whose equity performance at Allstring is 99th percentile. And she said something, Jon, that totally dovetails with Jon Stolfes. If you wake up half glass, half glass half full, if you wake up optimistic about the American experiment, that's like half the battle's done, isn't it?

  4. Hello, today is Sunday, August 16th, and I'm your host, Kim Ka. Wall Street gets a series of fresh reads on the health of the US consumer this week with Walmart, Target, and Home Depot reporting earnings. Home Depot kicks off the retail reports Tuesday, giving investors a look at demand for home improvement as consumers continue to contend with elevated elevated borrowing costs and a sluggish housing market. Target follows Wednesday with investors watching for signs of strength in discretionary spending and an update on the retailer's outlook for the second half of the year. And Walmart is the main event Thursday. Investors will be looking for the retail giant's latest read on consumer spending as well as the impact of tariffs on pricing. The company has topped earnings estimates in 15 of the past 16 quarters. Oppenheimer recently downgraded Walmart to perform from outperform warning that U.S. comparable sales could fall short of expectations. Analyst Rupesh Parekh expects comps of about 3%, below the Street figure of 3.8%. "We expect strong grocery momentum to continue in a more difficult backdrop lately and are modeling a moderation for both the general merchandise and health and wellness categories," he said. Here's how the rest of the earnings calendar shapes up: Baidu reports Tuesday. Analog Devices , Lowe's, and Estée Lauder weigh in on Wednesday. and Alibaba, Deere, and Ross Stores report Thursday. Looking to the economy, the minutes of the last Fed meeting where the FOMC held rates with 3 dissents are due Wednesday. Wells Fargo economists say they expect the minutes to reflect that members are willing to be patient for now when it comes to further progress on inflation, but the bar is low for future rate hikes if inflation does not slow further. Next month's employment and inflation data will go a long way toward deciding the September FOMC meeting. but the path is clearly there for policymakers to once again leave the Fed funds rate unchanged, they added. In the news this weekend, Anthropic is forecasting its 2028 revenue to reach roughly $190 to $200 billion, a figure that will help determine its IPO valuation when the AI startup makes its much-anticipated public debut, Reuters reported. Multiple reference points, including cloud infrastructure firm Cloudflare, enterprise software company Palantir, and newly public SpaceX are under consideration as valuation comps.

  5. And like, we need more of this, like, authenticity. CEO, go direct, man. Protect yourselves. All right. Yeah. And be yourself, man. And like, he's being himself and like, he's a good guy. It's all good, folks. There's two points that I think are really important. Open source makes frontier tokens more valuable. So like, let's just say, let's, let's use an example. Let's say that, you know, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Grok, they're at like a 250 IQ or 200 IQ. Well, if you have a 200 or 250 IQ intellect that can orchestrate these open source 150 IQ intellects, like that, that's actually more— that makes the 250 IQ intellect more valuable is because it can farm out tasks. And just in the same way, you know, if we're going to use the Manhattan Project analogy, you know, everybody, you know, talks, you know, talks about, um, Richard Feynman and, you know, who's the guy who ran it all. And, you know, there's these 10 really smart physicists. This guy who ran it, um, you know, who said, I have become death, um, who's the guy who ran the Manhattan Project? Come on, somebody else. Oppenheimer. You see, you had Oppenheimer, and even you had 10, you know, effectively Nobel laureates, maybe 30 of them, but they needed like the 2,000, you know, merely, you know, top 10,000 in the world physicists. So having more, having more affordable intelligence, it actually makes the frontier even more valuable. And I think a very plausible outcome is one which Frontier tokens are 65 to 85% of the economic value. Um, open-source tokens are like 80% of the volume, and that's good for everyone, and everyone wins.

  6. And if it's the unlikely scenario that's going to immediately go down and make, you know, go down 50, 60, 70%, we'll be out because once the intraday low is violated, we know that we're wrong and we'll be out. But people always worry about declines after the decline. I remember the crash of '87. I was involved in the market. I worked at Oppenheimer at the time, crash of '87. I called the crash very well. I managed a mutual fund that went into 90% cash before the— at the top. Very good. There's another story. But I remember at the bottom, all my portfolio managers in the group who were bullish at the top were bearish at the bottom. They're afraid to buy. I said, buy, buy, buy. Now's the time to buy. But that's just the nature of this business. So, yes, markets, stock markets make V-bottoms. Spike bottoms. They make rounded tops, you see. But commodities are differently— see, even this is— even this in the CAC is around the top because you have a top here and the top here, not much of a difference, you see. Well, let's look at the NASDAQ 100, the latest top. You see a peak here, a slightly lower peak here, slightly lower peak here, you see. Yep. But the bottom, on the other hand, most like— most generally is a V. Sometimes you test it and come off with another V. Semiconductor, same story. You had a double island reversal Very, very rare. I've never seen it before, actually, a double island. This is the June top. I point out to my clients, you know, island reversal right here in early, mid-June, and then in late June, a double island reversal, right? Island reversal is it gaps up, then the market gaps down and creates two spaces, which creates an island. Island reversal, island reversal here. This is also, you know, it's not a V top. This is really a rounding top, as you can see. The bottom looks more like a V bottom. We'll see whether that continues to the upside today. Right now semiconductors actually made a new high on Friday. I think semiconductors generated a new intraday high on Friday, another slightly higher intraday high today, but now it's down in the day. But so it's doing fine.
