  1. On that note, I think we have more to talk about in the future. This has been a truly unique, fascinating, and I think for a lot of people in our audience, this is not a typical conversation, but I, I just want to highlight the importance of hearing what you have to say, because I think it's very important that even if something seems not apparent, particularly when things seem unlikely or when things seem outlandish or heretical or whatever term you might want to put onto things, it's valuable to, to take that in. It's definitely a lot to kind of think about the paths ahead. And I'd love to talk more.

  2. Yeah, there's no question that a lot of these roles have not been replaced. So Randy George, who I mentioned, the Army Chief of Staff, is now filled by the Vice Chief of Staff, General Chris LaNieve, but he's there in an acting capacity. And the reality is, uh, he— that's just one of many jobs that haven't been replaced. The concern, of course, is not that the Army's not going to keep running, not that they're not— they're not going to be able to fulfill whatever mission they're given. It's more about the optics of this. It's the fact the fact that, you know, the U.S. is still engaged in this conflict with Iran, and that's just one of the adversaries that the U.S. is facing right now. And when you have leadership that is in such turmoil, like we have seen at the Pentagon under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, it really puts into question, uh, the, the strength of the U.S. military and the strength of the Department of Defense. And it's just not the kind of thing that you need when there is this ongoing back and forth between the U.S. and Iran. On, again, including other adversaries as well.

We're just taking a look at some headlines that continue to cross. A couple of important ones here. The company sees third quarter revenue $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%. If we dive into that calculation a little bit, the company's forecasting $105.84 billion, $210 point $106 billion in revenue for the quarter ending in November compared to analysts' estimates of about $105 billion. The higher-end consensus estimates were as high as $138.7 billion. As Maggie Eastland writes, our tech policy reporter on our live blog, quote, it's getting harder to impress investors. Indeed, we're seeing that right now with shares of Nvidia down 1.3%. I want to bring back Ed Ludlow, the host of Bloomberg Tech. On Bloomberg Television. And we continue to get some great questions from around the world from our listeners and viewers. This one coming from Annika in Switzerland. It's about Nvidia's order book. And she wrote this before we got the headline of Nvidia saying commitments increased to $279 billion from $119 billion quarter over quarter. Annika asks, when Nvidia reports its order book, are these legally binding orders?

  4. Meta's stock right now is up about 1%. Russia is preparing to escalate attacks on Ukraine after concluding that negotiations for a peace deal have reached a dead end. That's according to 3 people close to the Kremlin. Negotiation frameworks have all effectively collapsed, leaving the 2 warring sides back at square one. US efforts to end the war have failed to produce a breakthrough, and negotiations have stalled with President Trump focused on the conflict with Iran. On that war, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps says it's reached a revenue-sharing agreement with Oman in the Strait of Hormuz as both countries continue talks on an interim framework for shipping through that integral waterway. Bloomberg's Dana Krish has more from Dubai.

  5. Welcome to Seeking Alpha's Wall Street Lunch, our afternoon update on today's market action, news, and analysis. Good afternoon. Today is Wednesday, August 26th, and I'm your host, Kim Kahn. Our top story so far: Meta Platforms has reached a settlement with state attorneys general over allegations that Facebook and Instagram were intentionally designed to be addictive to minors. The $12.7 billion settlement was reached during a federal trial in California and also resolves lawsuits filed by California, Illinois, New Mexico, and Washington, D.C. over personal data collected from the Facebook platform by Cambridge Analytica. The main lawsuit filed by 29 states alleged Meta violated the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act by collecting personal data from minors without parental consent and using the data for machine learning and generative AI models. Meta denied the allegations, arguing that social media addiction is not a recognized psychiatric condition. As is typical with settlements, Meta will not admit any liability, wrongdoing, or violation of law. But the company did agree to impose daily usage limits and restrict nighttime usage by minors on Facebook and Instagram. Access to certain features, including post like counts and beauty filters, will be restricted for teens. The company also agreed to strengthen measures preventing minors from accessing age-restricted content and enhance its age verification tools. The settlement also includes the appointment of an independent auditor to confirm compliance and issue recommendations. Meta will post a charge of approximately $10 billion to its Q3 results tied to the settlement. Shares are higher for a fourth consecutive day. Looking to the economy, the core PCE price index rose 0.2% in July, matching the consensus and ticking up from the 0.1% in June. On an annual basis, core PCE climbed 3.3%, still well above the Fed's 2% target. Headline PCE also rose 0.2%, exceeding the 0.1% consensus and reversing the 0.1% dip in June. Year over year, the inflation rate rose to 3.7%, above the 3.3% consensus and even with the prior month. The data still gives the Federal Reserve time to wait and see, said Heather Long, chief economist at Navy Federal Credit Union. It's not getting worse, but it's not getting any better in July either. A trade war with Canada will only exacerbate inflation woes.

  6. Well, that's a— no, it's a great start. Jesse Michaels was here yesterday, and he had a really fascinating theory. I don't know if it's— is that his theory, or is it someone else's theory, the ergot theory? His theory was that he believes that agriculture and that as they started agriculture wasn't just significant in that you could like stay in one place and you would have food and you always had a reliable diet. You didn't have to worry about starving to death and then you— because you had that sort of relaxation that came with that, you could start inventing things and building things and civilization would advance. He thinks it's also because ergot grows. On these different wheats and barleys and grains, and that these people, whether knowingly or unknowingly, were probably ingesting this psychedelic substance, which is akin to LSD, and that this was, uh, a key part of what Brian Murarescu talked about in The Eleusinian Mysteries, in his great book, The Immortality Key, and that this was probably what led to a lot of invention, a lot of innovation, a lot of alternative thought. A lot of creativity and a lot of like, you know, whatever the wild advancements of the time were.

  7. It can be. So Williams-Sonoma talked about it slightly. They had acquired Dormify and they relaunched that. They saw success with, you know, back to college students and their Pottery Barn Kids brand did well this quarter. Not a lot of detail, but again, you know, a lot of their benefit is coming from that higher income shopper. When I think back to yesterday, Dick's results, you know, they didn't really comment on back to school, kind of give it— gives you the indication that perhaps the performance from Foot Locker was not as good as they were expecting. And again, I think that is reflecting pressure on a lower income consumer. On for that.
