Well, let's have a look at markets now, shall we? The MSCI Asia-Pacific Index is up this morning by 0.9%. You've got Samsung and SK Hynix both up nearly 3%. That has also helped to see the KOSPI rally. This ahead of the Nvidia earnings that we've already mentioned. Oil prices 2.2% lower for Brent crude futures at $86. 6.8. It means the decline for oil prices is more than 8% over the course of this week. We get US PCE inflation data later on Wednesday after the consumer confidence figures out of the US, a 7-month low in August. Canadian dollars weaker 2/10 of 1%. European stock futures are up currently 2/10. Those are the markets.
Caroline Hepker — Bloomberg News Now · Iran-Oman Hormuz Talks, US Weighs Canada Trade Response, More · 2026-08-26What do you mean by that? Yeah, this is something that we talk a lot about with clients. You know, where we used to own a bunch of companies at the top of the S&P stack that spun off like a third or a half of their cash flows back to investors in buybacks and dividends, that money's gone. We're back to a VC kind of investment cycle where every single dollar these companies make is going to a science project. 38% of MSCI Global, all country world, is tech and big tech. So basically 40% of the global index is in this science project. And the only, the only way you can really escape it, and as you know, Jessica and I have not been fans of equal weight S&P for a long time. I see a point of it now. Equal weight S&P is 14% tech. You still own these companies in some small size, but you're not as leveraged as you are as the market cap weighted indexes. So that's the story there.
Nick Colas — The Compound and Friends · Why Every Trader on Earth is Watching the 10-Year Treasury Now with Nick Colas · 2026-08-24That's fair. That's fair. That may definitely be the case. We'll certainly see as we go through the autumn of this year. But on that, from my vantage point, I think generally speaking, The last week or so has been fairly quiet, as I mentioned, a few good days, and then the last couple of days it's been correcting somewhat, especially from, from some of the action we've seen in the fixed income area. We'll get to that in a second. Anyways, as of Tuesday this week, which is the 18th, it— we have the Btop50 up 1.78% for the month of August, up 9.87% for the year. StockGen CTA Index up 1.47% for the month, up 9.7% for the year. The Trend Index, uh, up 1.69% for the month, up 9.73% for the year. And the Short-Term Traders Index, uh, having a good month, up 1.37% for the month of August, up 4.6% for the year. If we look at the traditional world, uh, also doing well, uh, MSCI World up 2.63% as of last night, so the 19th, and up 12.3% so far this year. If we strip out US and Canada, so we look at the MSCI EAFE, I think it's pronounced, up 1.45% for the month and up 11.39% for the year. Uh, US aggregate bonds, uh, up strong, uh, 72 basis points given the intervention we're seeing, or whatever we call it in the Treasury market. And, um, and up 0.39% only, uh, for the year. And then the, uh, total return, S&P 500 total return up 2.97% as of last night, up 12.6% so far this year. But as I alluded to, Mark, um, there is one other rumbling, um, that we're seeing taking shape, uh, at the moment. And it is happening in— I don't know if this is the biggest market of all, but it's probably one of the biggest markets, and that's the US bond market. It's not that I've spent too much time reading up on the details of what's been announced, but clearly we are now seeing some form of— I wouldn't— well, maybe intervention is not quite the right word, but it's certainly some, some action from, from the authorities in the US in terms of what they would like to see happening especially to the long end of the US Treasury curve.
Niels Kaastrup-Larsen — Top Traders Unplugged · SI414: The Hidden Risks Beneath the Treasury Market ft. Mark Rzepczynski · 2026-08-22Those are your top stories on the markets. The MSCI Asia Pacific Index higher today by 0.6%. Another boost for chipmakers, particularly Samsung, after reporting on their $79 billion share buyback plans. Looking at the Treasury markets, the 10-year yield holding steady at 4.6%. 7%. The 30-year yield also 5.25%. So as you say, reversing much of the gains from the announcement of ramping up buybacks from the Treasury earlier this week. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index is weakening another 0.2% with the euro trading at 1.1692 against the dollar. Oil prices a little lower today, trading for Brent at $93.24. Stephen Carroll — Bloomberg News Now · China’s AI Cost Advantage, Harry & Meghan Leaving US, More · 2026-08-20No one. Uh, yes, I agree. So that was the thing in the 2010s is 0% rates. And now in the 2020s, it's anytime you show someone there's a bull market, they go, oh yeah, well, government spending, government debt deficits. That's the only reason for the bull market. And obviously that's, that's a big part of it. That, that money does drop to the bottom line. But here's the thing, uh, cuz in the 2010s the question was, okay, fine, Europe has negative rates. Why aren't stocks going crazy there? In the 2020s it's, remember we showed this data from Michael Sembles before? Canada has a, or not Canada, China has a bigger deficit than the US. China is now borrowing as much or more share of GDP than the US. Look at what Chinese stocks have done this decade, and I didn't really realize it was this bad. MSCI China has done literally nothing this decade, is up 2% in total in the 2020s.
