  1. So I spent 2 years indoors being hounded to be vaccinated because of 4 amino acids being spliced into spike protein of coronavirus. Now, my guess is that that's pretty easy, right? Think about it. You need 12 nucleotides to code for 4 amino acids at the exact right place in spike protein, and that's enough to shut down Earth. This is high-leverage science. And my claim is, before we decide that what we want is, let's get back to kicking ass and taking names, let us at least pause and say, most people are ignorant of how much power is present with a little bit of scientific knowledge. There's a marvelous scene in Breaking Bad where the protagonist named Heisenberg takes what appears to be crystal meth and throws it in the office of a psychopath named Tuco. And Tuco says, "Well, what the hell was that that caused that massive explosion?" I forget whether it was lead azide or mercury fulminate or one of these extremely volatile compounds. Do you have any idea how easy it is to make black powder? I ask modern audiences, Nobody knows that it's 75% saltpeter, 10% sulfur, and 15% charcoal. The anarchist cookbook has gone out of discussion. The power of science, the leverage of science is so profound that we should at least ask the question, what if you had nuclear weapons that didn't require centrifuges? What if they're easy things to do? That high school students could do. You remember this guy who scavenged the americium in smoke detectors to build a working reactor, and I think it was Brooklyn. Okay. Well, nobody thought, collect 218 smoke detectors and you can have a working nuclear reactor. So my claim is that if you want to think about Walter White as a paradigm, you have to go back to something called the United States versus Progress, the Progressive magazine in which the Teller-Ulam design for the thermonuclear weapon was put forward by a publication. And the government said, no, no, this is restricted data. We need prior injunction. This is the most dangerous piece of geometry. This is Stan Ulam's work. And the whole idea is, is that if you're going to use a fission device, chemical shell compresses subcritical fissile material to create a detonator out of an atomic bomb.

  2. And so I hope you enjoy this peek behind the curtain into the strange world of AI reasoning with Bronson Cheyne of Apollo Research. The Cognitive Revolution is brought to you by Mercury, the banking platform loved by over 300,000 entrepreneurs. I use Mercury's virtual cards, which make it super easy to set limits, expiration dates, category, and even merchant-specific spending controls to give my more autonomous AI agents, Ade and Clay, the ability to buy and test products. Recently, I asked if they could find a good way to split an AI-generated image into layers, separating the text from the background and so on. Two of the products they found were behind paywalls, but using their Mercury Virtual Card, which is limited to SaaS purchases only. They bought a month subscription, tested the products, allowed me to review the results, and then canceled the stuff we didn't need, all with functionally zero risk to me. This is already really powerful. And now with Spend, Mercury is making it possible to run an entire company's spending with the same level of ease and control. With Spend, you can set granular budgets for every team, person, and all the agents you like. Plus, you can process receipts automatically and even temporarily auto-lock people's cards if there are ever any issues. The future of spending money is dynamic but controlled. So join me in the future of banking. Visit mercury.com to learn more and apply online in minutes. Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Columb, N.A., members FDIC. The IO Card is issued by Patriot Bank, N.A., member FDIC, pursuant to a license from Mastercard International Incorporated.

  3. Yeah, well, it's scary the whole way. You know, so here we are 10 to the 10 years from the beginning. If you just go up to here, 10 to the 11 years, what happens here is the Sun will get bigger and bigger. It swells. It eats up the close planets, Mercury and Venus. It may swallow up the Earth too. We're not sure, but certainly it will make life on Earth virtually impossible because it will be so hot on this planet. If you go up to the next floor above that, 10 to the 12 years from the beginning, what you find here is that the universe is expanding ever more quickly, driving the distant galaxies away faster than the speed of light. So we won't see them. So a future astronomer here looking out into the deep night sky will see only darkness. In the deep, deep night sky, everything will have drifted beyond the cosmic horizon.

  4. Pushkin. We've been in earnings season when companies that are listed on the stock markets tell the world how they're performing and give us a sense of what lies ahead. US earnings have been pretty spectacular, helping the US stock market to crack out some record highs after a pretty long period of dawdling around, going nowhere. So American exceptionalism, baby, back in the game. Go, go, go! All fueled by the miracle that is big tech and the AI trade. Okay, fine, but quietly, you know what? Europe is having a great run. It's comfortably keeping pace with the US stock market performance despite the lack of tech superpowers and the lack of that chest-thumping bravado that we get from our noisy American friends. Again, hi Rob, hope you're enjoying your holiday. Today on Show, we mean it this time. Make Europe great again. This is Unhedged, the markets and finance podcast from the Financial Times and Pushkin. I'm Katie Martin, a markets columnist at the FT on the planet Mercury. I mean, in London, same temperature. Joining me down in the bunker of FT Towers is my right-hand man, the guy who does the hard work on the actual markets news here at the FT, Ian Smith. Ian, thanks for coming back on.

  6. So with your omegas, so your omega score at 5 is low. You want that to be 8, but you probably didn't notice your mercury was right on the line of high as well. Those things will typically track. The more omega-3s you consume, the more mercury goes up.

  7. Because most omega-3 sources are going to be filled with mercury.
