I think the question will be like, how much are enterprises different at that level versus it's actually their, their literal IP that is what makes them different. Like how many different types of styles of execution are there in the world? Yeah. Versus no, it's just like the depth of knowledge about that particular legal case and how do I apply it to this other project I'm working on? That's where so much of the value sits. So, so, but again, if you can just like wait till my Zoom call with Dan and then I'll really know the answer. But like, I'm a fan because no matter what, —there's going to be— I've jumped right into the individual, but no matter what, at a firm level, there's probably ways to take this approach. I'm a big fan of what Trajectory or Applied Computer are doing, or Prime Intellect, because I think there's no question that if you're Eli Lilly, you want a model for how you do drug discovery. And that probably does need to go farther or deeper or more specific than what you're getting off the shelf. And there's not a lot of kind of church and state problems for drug discovery workflows. They probably want as much of that information available to as many people as possible. So I think it's going to be like domain specific. And you're just going to have different outcomes based on which vertical or type of use case and where the firewalls need to be in that process.

And by thinking, by reasoning, you don't need as much data as— you don't have to train on a few billion hours of road data because you could reason about it, break down the problem into, oh, I've seen this before. It's not exactly the same, but it's largely the same as that. And so Alpamayo, why is it necessary? Well, there's a whole bunch of car companies. Every car in the world is going to be autonomous. But beyond that, every agtech, every truck, every van, and most of them aren't big enough in scale to be able to build that whole stack. So I'll build an extraordinary stack for them. They do last mile adapting for their application. Now everything that moves in the future could be autonomous. If not for us building some of the biology models, the world wouldn't have it. The ESM2 protein language model, we created that. ESMFold, OpenFold, AlphaFold2, all the stuff with, with Q-Equivariant, All of that stuff, technology, wouldn't have existed if we didn't build it. One of my favorites, Proteina Complexa, synthesizing next generation proteins and its binding. It's groundbreaking stuff. We built that. We'll build that because Lilly needs it and Merck needs it and others need it and they don't have the capability to do it or they're not yet there. We can make a real contribution. I do everything out of need. I'm not trying to disrupt. I mean, we don't wake up in the morning, try to disrupt anybody, right? We just wake up in the morning, try to help everybody.

Like, retatrutide's gonna come out from Lilly, make them billions if not trillions of dollars. They're working hard to protect that patent. But you can bet people who are getting prescribed real retatrutide from Lilly will be taking less and sharing it based on information they hear on the internet. From the peptide community and on health podcasts, because— and that scares the shit out of them, and it should, it should scare the shit out of them. It says the clinical trials were done at these various doses, but not these microdoses, perhaps. People have different responses. Some people respond very well, some people need more. So patients now are trying to figure out, how can I get the effect I want with the minimal amount of side effects? And they're doing the experiments on themselves, and that is changing the whole model. And we're never going back. I kind of laugh at when like these folks who were trained like 30, 40 years ago are like trying to hold on to this thing. It's dead, it's gone, it's over. I see these people on X and they're like so upset. And it just reminds me of like when the parental advisory stuff came out and it was like, they're swearing on music. And it was like every kid was like, yeah, I want that music because it has the parental advisory, you morons. You know, they just don't get it. It's like, You talk about plasticity at any age, but apparently they've got like cement in there, 'cause you're like, I don't know. This is why people should retire.

So now lidocaine is standard in good places. They discovered that by taking a bunch of the medical records and just running them through AI. Why do you think that is? Why it works? Yeah. I don't know. I mean, it could be that the anesthetic prevents nerve regrowth that contributes to vessel growth, which contributes to tumor growth. I'm making up a story here, but we know it's a very strong effect. That would, lidocaine makes people no money. So it's not gonna cure breast cancer, but now it's standard practice. Where there's no huge profit margin, or let's say Retatrutide, huge profit margin that they're facing, but if people are taking itty-bitty bits of Retatrutide, and to be fair, if people who didn't do all the preclinical work are selling it and making profits, I understand that siphons profit away from Lilly. They have reason to be pissed and scared. Like, this is their big blockbuster drug, right as all the other GLPs come off protection from generics. They're all moving to generics.

It's losing weight, so to speak. It's working to win back market share. The company has faced stiff competition from rival Eli Lilly and pressure from shareholders to deliver new products. And Practical Magic 2 topped the weekend box office, but a $30 million domestic take was below estimates. Still, the long-awaited sequel ended the 6-week reign of Spider-Man: Brand New Day atop the box office. Rutte says the strikes are a sign of growing desperation from Russian President Vladimir Putin. And German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is vowing to press on with military support for Ukraine. That's as opposition to funding has helped propel his country's far-right. President Trump's son Don Jr. reportedly had his wedding bankrolled by a Russian oligarch with ties to Vladimir Putin. This is according to a report from ProPublica. It cites records and interviews with 3 people familiar with the May 24th ceremony in the Bahamas. The report says Umar Kremlev covered hundreds of thousands of dollars of expenses, including rent for the private island where Don Jr.'s reception was held, along with a fireworks show. Kremlev is head of the International Boxing Federation, which is financed by the Russian state energy firm Gazprom. Back to Wall Street, we're watching shares of Baldwin Insurance Group. They are up more than 7% at the open. Billionaire Michael Dell's family office has teamed with Sequoia Holdings to purchase the insurance distributor in a deal worth about $7.7 billion. Novo Nordisk shares traded in the U.S. are higher by more than 1%. The maker of the Wegovy weight loss drug is shedding half its name to boost its brand against Eli Lilly, which has been going as Lilly more often. Novo Nordisk will now be known as Novo. And Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer has backed down after initially saying he would vigorously challenge a $30 million fine for violating salary cap rules. It's good to have you here! Today is Monday, September 14th. I'm Julie Morgan. Crude oil is 2.5% higher at $102 a barrel this Monday morning. Brent crude is also 2.5% higher at $107 a barrel. Drone attacks have forced Saudi Arabia to shut its East-West pipeline, —raising fresh concerns over global supply. The pipeline can carry about 4 million barrels a day to a Red Sea port, providing a key route for Saudi exports to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Industry sources cited by Reuters offered conflicting estimates for repairs: one said the work would require 5 to 6 weeks, while another suggested limited operations might resume sooner. Saudi officials have not disclosed the extent of the damage or provided a timetable. The outage comes after Saudi production fell to 6.2 million barrels a day in August, compared to 10.9 million in February. Saudi Arabia could exhaust oil inventories available for export within days unless it restarts the critical pipeline to the Red Sea, potentially removing as much as 4% of global supply from an already strained market. The cost of shipping oil in supertankers is also top of mind. Bloomberg reported that prices surged to fresh record highs last week following the biggest wave of attacks on Middle East shipping since the start of the U.S.-Iran War. Novo Nordisk is shortening its name to Novo. The company will also update its logo, with its trademark bull shifting to face right. The changes come as its competitor Eli Lilly increasingly adopts a single-name identity, dropping Eli from its marketing materials. Novo will provide a detailed overview of the updated corporate strategy at its Capital Markets Day on September 21 in London. So, just a week away. President Trump is dismissing mounting warnings about artificial intelligence, arguing that slowing development could jeopardize the U.S.'s lead over China. This is already a very popular story on Seeking Alpha. It has more than 140 comments thus far. Trump told reporters Sunday at the Irish Open, "We're leading China in AI. We're the most sophisticated country in the world, and frankly, I want to keep it that way because whoever wins AI wins."

And of course, I believe Ken has also never sold a share of Eli Lilly. But that is a story for 2027 on Acquired.

This is a booming suburb by nearly every metric. There's lots of population growth, lots of new housing construction going up, a low unemployment rate compared to the national average, and tons of new private investment coming in, including billions of dollars from Eli Lilly. But all of that growth is also driving up the cost of living. So take a look at these two stats. The median household income here in Cabarrus County is $89,000. It's a pretty wealthy suburb. But MIT economists estimate that the average family here with two parents, two kids, needs $114,000 just to cover their basic expenses. That's an affordability gap of nearly 30%. And that's the financial strain that voters have been telling about— telling us about since we got down here this week. Now, Cooper doesn't have to win this county, but he thinks that if he could even eat into Republicans' lead after President Trump carried this county by 8 points just 2 years ago, that's what will help them win the Senate seat.

I don't think it is investible, and I'm not a bio researcher. And so, although maybe more tailwinds for Google Cloud, maybe, maybe, but I've been leaning heavily on Eli Lilly CEO David Ricks last year, who wasn't dismissive of AI, but was definitely trying to hit the brakes on the hype. The body's complicated. It's great to map and understand the genome, but there are very few diseases caused by a single gene. Cystic fibrosis famously is chromosome 7, only chromosome 7. And yet we still struggle with that. Most things, it's interactions between different things. This is a great starting point, but all this does is basically give researchers, you know, a head start at that first step. So maybe we do fewer dead ends. There's still a huge, huge amount of progress. One thing Rick's pointed out is, is that AI models speak English. They don't speak biology. And part of that is, is because humans don't speak biology. We still don't understand the language of biology, so we can't teach AI a language we don't understand. I think we'll get there in time, but these are incredibly complex problems. Root for it because we all want to live healthy. And I do think that this is progress and I celebrate that. But as an investor, you're talking a decade or so, I think, before there is anything coming out of here, just the nature of the science. So cheers to incremental progress, but do understand and don't just kind of load up on the account of some biotech because they say they're licensing this. That is not a good investment, even if we're making real progress.
