Yeah, look, they have to raise prices. I mean, I don't think people realize— I was at the supermarket the other day and I was looking at things that have to be trucked into the supermarket. And the answer is everything. And all the trucking companies, almost every Every single one except for the ones that are actually owned by, say, a Pepsi-Cola, they basically have to put through some sort of relief, which is then passed on to the supermarkets, which is then passed on to you as a consumer. So it was interesting that Walmart stock went up yesterday and Kroger stock did not react to the negative earnings as if somehow they are going to be able to get a little bit more of a margin. But when we trying to figure out who is the culprit, so to speak. It's diesel, as you've been saying, Carl, for a long time. Diesel is how America runs on the industrial, the enterprise, and the diesel prices are making it so someone has to lose. And I think the loser is us.

And you can just look at the stock in Kroger. There it is. That represents the individual trying to be able to keep up. And then because people feel that Dollar Tree and Dollar General, that those sizes are bigger, they don't really understand it. They should just look— I mean, like a lot of the younger people, they go and they just see them doing this stuff. They look at the OZ and figure it out. Jim Cramer · Squawk on the Street · 9am Hour: OpenAI Urges Caution, Qualcomm & Amazon Partnership, Novartis’ Drug Trial Setbacks 9/8/26 · 2026-09-08Welcome to Seeking Alpha's Wall Street Brunch, our Sunday look ahead to this week's market-moving events, along with the weekend's top news and analysis. Hello, today is Sunday, September 6th, and I'm your host, Kim Kahn. This holiday-shortened week brings make-or-break consumer price numbers for this month's Fed rate meeting. With the market closed Monday for Labor Day, the August CPI arrives Friday. Economists expect a 0.4% rise in the headline number, keeping the annual rate at 3.4%. The core rate, ex-food and energy, is seen rising 0.2%, dipping to 2.4% annually from 2.5%. Wells Fargo economists say that while headline inflation remains influenced by the ebbs and flows of the conflict in the Middle East, core inflation remains contained. A hot inflation report could cement an FOMC rate hike later this month. Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's hawkish Jackson Hole speech spiked odds of a quarter-point rise, but President Donald Trump's threat to cease trade with a number of nations if rates didn't come down made it a coin toss. Friday's better-than-expected rise in payrolls put hike odds now at 60%. Seeking Alpha analyst Demartokic says the Fed is facing late-cycle dynamics with a strong labor market and high inflation and should consider inverting the yield curve or hiking above 5%. Starting with the September hike. Otherwise, long-term rates should spike as inflation expectations de-anchor, which would force the Fed to hike even more aggressively due to the 2022-like policy error, he said. On the earnings front, Oracle will give the market another glimpse of hyperscaler revenue versus CapEx when it reports Thursday. The consensus is for EPS of $1.74 on revenue of $19.13 billion. SA analyst JD Research says despite infrastructure build-out risks, Oracle's software business and multi-cloud AI databases are delivering strong growth and mitigating AI execution concerns. But Oracle bear Paul Franke says escalating AI LLM fees on consumers and businesses are prompting users to cut back on queries, raising doubts about the sustainability of Oracle's hyperscaler strategy. Here's how the rest of the earnings calendar shapes up. GameStop reports Tuesday. On Wednesday, Chewy weighs in. Macy's and Adobe join Oracle on Thursday and Kroger's due Friday. Also this week, Apple's Wednesday product launch event, Surprise and Shine, may be its most significant in nearly a decade. Morgan Stanley analyst Eric Woodring says along with predictable product launches, the event will prove to be anything but ordinary.
Kim Kahn · Wall Street Breakfast · Inflation puts Fed rate hike on the line · 2026-09-06One big thing not related to AVs or Delivery Hero is that Kroger, the second largest grocer in America, added roughly 2,700 stores onto the Uber Eats app nationwide in January. And then we mentioned Ulta Beauty earlier, and they've also partnered with some other familiar names like GameStop. And you know, I haven't been as excited about grocery long-term because I can imagine a lot of big grocers, I'm thinking Walmart and Target in particular, will want to control the relationship with their customers directly. So they won't want to have a middleman like Uber in the way. And so they may have the resources to build out their own version of the delivery service, sort of like what Amazon has with Whole Foods. And so that was my worry. But again, what has actually happened, at least so far, is that Kroger, a company with every resource to go it alone, has chosen to plug into Uber's network instead.

The Justice Department has widened its investigation into the meatpacking industry, requesting information from 8 major grocery retailers as beef prices remain close to record levels. The department said this week that the associate attorney general sent letters last month to Amazon, Costco, Walmart, Albertsons, Kroger, Publix, and Aldi. The request covers 6 years of data on how the retailers buy beef, their purchasing strategies, retail prices, profit margins, and assessments of the market. The investigation is part of a broader examination announced by the Justice Department back in May into possible antitrust violations in the meatpacking sector. Ground beef sold for an average of $7.11 per pound in July, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, remaining near its record despite a modest easing. Chipotle Mexican Grill announced the opening of its first restaurant in Asia. The new location is in Seoul, South Korea. Chipotle noted that South Korea was selected because it is seen as having highly engaged and discerning consumers, a sophisticated restaurant culture, and strong appreciation for authenticity and ingredient quality.
Julie Morgan · Wall Street Breakfast · Broadcom beat meets high hopes · 2026-09-03So the way the website is set up, it's a GraceCart. I'm not sure if you're familiar with that, but it's so when new products come into the store and they're inventoried, it automatically shows up on the website. So you can order from the website, you can pay. We don't have delivery right now, but the idea is to compete with the Kroger truck that's going by the store every day taking groceries to families. That, you know, the— in my non-scientific survey, you know, people say, well, I'd love to shop at the co-op, but I just don't have time to go around. And I know if there was a way I could just order things and just pick it up That would be great. So that was the thought behind it.
Jon Groner · How I Built This with Guy Raz · Advice Line with Ben Goodwin of Olipop · 2026-09-03Yeah. You said for sure, Jon, I don't know how much, if you should put a whole lot of energy into marketing or promoting e-commerce for now, it's a, it's a very, very hard, it's an expensive game. Right. And it, and, and customer acquisition costs are very, very high and, and maybe down the road, but I think for now what you have is what Kroger and, and the big chain stores don't have, which is exclusive products, handpicked curated items in the store, real stories. You mentioned that people come and ask about the eggs and are the chickens treated well? They want to know about the meat and how it's slaughtered. Where's the fruit coming from? I mean, all of those are stories that the big grocery stores just don't have and they can't tell. So a couple things come to mind. First of all, could you try things like, you know, like bringing the farmers in on, you know, have like a meet the farmer Saturday or something, you know, where you've got somebody there talking about the meat or talking about the peaches you got right now. Or, you know, there's great milk in Ohio, has got to produce a lot of milk. I know this because Jeni's Ice Cream uses milk from Ohio. I think there are some creative things you can do to get not just your existing customers in, but to build more word of mouth, like, oh, we're going to Bexley's Natural Foods to, you know, to try out— like every Sunday they have samples of new products they're considering stocking and we want to go try them.
