Welcome to Seeking Alpha's Wall Street Breakfast, where we cover the top news for investors every morning. It's good to have you here as we enter the final full week of August. Alibaba said it will use 100% of the net proceeds to invest in its full-stack AI capabilities, including expanding and enhancing AI infrastructure, as it seeks to strengthen its global position in AI. The equity placement is expected to close on August 26. Meanwhile, investor Michael Burry said he has swapped his Alibaba Holdings for a large position in rival Chinese e-commerce company JD.com, citing concerns about Alibaba's share issuance. BABA is down 3% in premarket action. NVIDIA's biggest customers have been notified that prices of servers containing its AI chips will go up more than 15% in many cases, including those with Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell chips. Bloomberg News reported that the price hikes will go into effect on systems shipped early next year and will depend on the generation of Nvidia chips and memory configuration, according to people familiar with the process. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta are pursuing in-house chip programs, but they're still dependent on Nvidia products for their data center buildouts. California's attorney general has canceled a meeting with representatives of Paramount that was scheduled for today to to begin discussing a settlement of the state's lawsuit seeking to block the company's proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The New York Times reported that Rob Bonta, the attorney general, called off the meeting late Sunday, accusing Paramount of acting in bad faith. In a statement to the Times, Bonta said, not only did Paramount leak the alleged substance of settlement discussions, but they misrepresented these discussions, demonstrating a lack of good faith. He goes on to say, as soon as Paramount stops playing games and engages sincerely, my office is happy to meet again. Paramount's proposed $111 billion purchase of Warner Brothers would create a media giant combining two major movie studios, multiple streaming services, and the news outlets CNN and CBS News.

JPMorgan is warning that US Treasury Secretary's surprise move to bring down long-term borrowing costs could actually make things worse. Scott Bessant's Treasury said yesterday it would at least double the size of its bond buybacks, effectively buying more of the government's own debt. That initially sent long-term yields lower, but JPMorgan says the move addresses the symptoms rather than the cause of America's ballooning debt pile. The bank warns that without real fiscal consolidation, investors could lose confidence and push borrowing costs even higher. Andrew Curran is Bloomberg's Federal Reserve reporter.
