HubSpot ($HUBS) podcast mentions

  1. Hampton would be the one that— yeah, that actually makes sense. Because again, you wind up in the situation that it's like, oh, we'd like to buy your data from My First Million, and everything HubSpot HubSpot has as well. Just give us access to the HubSpot Slack. I don't think that's going to happen. They probably don't use Slack there, right? CRM competitor, probably use something else.

  2. Yeah. Did you start off saying, I've used Salesforce and HubSpot and other things, and here's what I want changed? Or I guess, how did you triangulate, um, the job to be done? Because then on one hand, like a CRM is just a repository, right? It's like customer relationship management. Here's the repository of all the information, all the customer information. But on the other hand, it's also like this, if you've talked to anybody who's run a sales team, one of their biggest pain points is my stupid salespeople don't update the CRM. And it's often a stale repository, but I guess what were the governing principles, if you will, around what was broken with the world today? What were you going to do differently? Or was it like, let's just have people with negative pricing in my office and I'll figure out what they're complaining about and build around that?

  3. Yeah. Uh, that's a good question. We, we started with both extremes and we figured that that is the fastest path to, to, to, to find the efficient frontier. We started with pure seat pricing, um, because it just matched the sort of Salesforce, HubSpot world. Uh, it was, I think it was received really well by our customers. Uh, but then the, the head just, the head was using 10,000x more than the tail. Yeah. Uh, and we realized that using in terms of consumption. Yeah. In terms of consumption. Consumption, and, uh, we weren't going to be in business for a long time with per-seat pricing. So then we tried purist consumption pricing where, uh, everything is a credit, um, in, in Lightfield. And, um, then we found that nobody touched anything. Yeah. As you can imagine, it was, it was about the worst 3 weeks of the company's life of we have all of these signups, but they're not doing anything. Yeah.

  4. or HubSpot's a great example where we have actual connectors directly into HubSpot for that marketing outreach based on that intelligence that you're going to get through MCP.

  5. I think so. And I think that's also because that's where we're seeing a lot of the technology coming from. And that's also where a lot of the consumer trust lies as well. I mean, I think we're talking about trying to get consumers to let autonomous buying agents handle a lot of sort of mundane transactions. And I think we're seeing that, you know, some of the things like tracking orders, checking inventory, processing returns on the backend. That's something where it's very useful for Shopify. For a human individual user, things like going through your emails, summarizing some of your admin tasks, you know, as a worker, there are a lot of ways in which this technology is very useful, but there's a real trust bottleneck there. And I think that there's also a regulatory bottleneck too. I think there's still a lot of uncertainty about how this is actually going to be applied in everyday life in the long term. So I do think as we see a lot of the dominant tech companies like Meta, like Alphabet, like Microsoft, you know, they're using their, you know, their capital, their massive distribution networks to deploy the latest AI innovations as well as agents. They're making good products more efficient. That is essentially the definition of a sustaining innovation. And, you know, going back to the example of Shopify, I think this is one of those companies that is solving a lot of the problems that merchants around the world continue to encounter. You know, they are continuing to leverage AI in their everyday processes behind the scenes on the backend, solving a lot of the problems that merchants are facing. And I think that that makes them a company that can sustain even in an age of innovation. You know, there was a projection that came out from HubSpot that 95% of buyer journeys will be beginning inside an LLM chat within 2 years. So I do think that we are seeing an adoption curve among consumers, but I just don't think it's necessarily going to be quite as fast an adoption as some of the big tech companies are saying.
