I think the breakdown, uh, would be in the Brotherhood. There's breakdown in the, in the Brotherhood, uh, I think. And I'm going to use— I'm just going to pick a date out of thin air— in, in the early '70s, late '60s, if you didn't build your motorcycle from the ground up and you rode it into some party or some camp, uh, to party with everybody, people would know and you would not be accepted. You'd probably get asked to leave if, uh, you know, not getting a physical confrontation. Back then, you have to understand, there was no warehouses where you could mail order all your parts. Uh, hey, I want to chrome this. Hey, I want a special, uh, clutch lever. I want— everybody was making that stuff by hand. And I'll, you know, admit that there were a few people leading the way, like Dean Lonza, uh, Dick Woods, uh, these different bike builders, uh, up and down the coast. And you could tell, you know, Geographically, you could tell where somebody was from. It was like an accent. You look at somebody's bike and you go, this guy's from San Fernando Valley, this guy's from the Bay Area, you know, this guy's a San Diego guy, because they, they had a, a particular accent to them. And, uh, it's, it's been diluted now. You can go in the shop and if you got $30,000, you can buy a Harley-Davidson and, uh, you know, you can be a biker. I had, uh lunch with the Davidson family once, and I was serious, but I was giving them a hard time kind of joking. I said, you know, and this is a true story, in the old days, you go into the Harley shop and you were an outlaw biker, you know, they didn't want your business. They didn't even want you in there. And I was actually telling Willie Davidson and his son, I can't think of his son's name, he was head of marketing at the time, that they should give me a bike because they were now selling cutoff vests, they were selling leather pants, they were selling bandanas, they were selling things now that when we were dressing like that in the '60s and '70s, they were condemning, you know, and it just made this huge transition.

And the Harleys. And the FXR was probably the best handling, the most reliable bike Harley-Davidson perhaps ever made, in my expectations. Uh, the FXR Sport, it had, you know, two discs on the front, disc brake on the back. And there was a gentleman, uh, that worked for Harley named Jerry Branch in Long Beach, and he had this ported and polished heads and a carburation, and he had a whole like little kit you have them put on at the Harley shop. And, uh, I became good friends with this Manny, uh, from, uh, Ventura Harley-Davidson. And, uh, so I got one of the first FXRs and Ventura called me and said, hey man, you got to come down there, this motor is unbelievable, they've made so many changes in the motor. Like, I was looking at the motor over there, uh, for my friend. Yeah. And, uh, That motor was the Prelude. The next motor was the Evolution, and, uh, it was all rubber-mounted, and, you know, it was just, it was just like a whole new motorcycle. And people are going to call bullshit, but it's the truth. I swear I changed the lifters and the valves, uh, I mean the lifters and the cam, the followers, and, and, uh I don't even think I changed the pistons, man. I had like 300,000 miles on it. It was just— damn, incredible motorcycle. Just rode it everywhere. Uh, I, I've got some, uh, I got a cool, uh, picture, uh, a couple cool pictures, uh, I'll get to you. But the— before that, built a bike. I won a bike in a dice game from the Saint and Slaves. This is a 1978 Bill Reed and I— Bill Reed was a Satan Slave, I was a Hells Angel. We were like, you know, real close, man. I spent so much time with the Satan Slaves, the gang intelligence cops down in Los Angeles said I was a member of the Satan Slaves. They didn't even realize I was a Hells Angel. I spent so much time with these guys. I was always with them.

And, uh, you know, so we started this dice game and I wound up with a bike. I've got this picture, it's almost like a prelude to the next bike Harley-Davidson made. Now people will say, ah, bullshit, Harley-Davidson didn't copy him. Yeah, Harley-Davidson copied this. Money was right around the corner. The Ventura Harley shop was on one street, and then on the back street was the Ventura Hells Angels Clubhouse. And Monty told us he would come over there to see what we were doing. I had a guy, David Ortega, uh, like my closest brother. Uh, we were either loving on each other or fighting, you know. We were— that's one of them deals. And I would do all the mechanical work, and he would do all the fabrication. And we came up with this bike. It and he came up with a paint. He's the first, and I said, David, I want an all-black bike. And he came up with this paint, painted the heads, the front end, the, uh, the cam cover, the primary cover. The whole bike was black, and it was just highlighted with a little bit of chrome. And, uh, probably 3 years, 2 years later Harley came out with what they called the Night Train. They had copied it.

So I started laying out this legend that I was a high-ranking member, or if not the leader, of an international theft ring. So I knew because I was on the border and I worked with Texas DPS, Border Patrol, even from my own insurance. I know that what I said earlier, a 4x4 V8 and Harley-Davidson stolen all the time. All the time. So I knew that was popular. And I did a little— we did a little dog and pony show where I got Joe Dogs with me one night and we go out and he sees me meet a truck driver. He sees me pay cash to the truck driver. He sees me with what would appear to be a truckload of stolen equipment. And that's the way I portrayed it as such. I even give him some, you know, um, and then he's like, oh man, you make a pretty good lick on that. And I'm like, yeah, not too bad. He goes, all I saw was power tools. I said, exactly, just let him wonder, just let him wonder. Um, so then it becomes to where it's insurance fraud, and that's where we started really starting to do some stuff. They would report their motorcycle stolen, they get their insurance money, I would buy the motorcycles at a stolen price from them, which is usually 20 to 25% of actual cost. And then that happens. Nobody goes to jail. Build us some trust. Then it's, hey, when you coming back, Tex? They nicknamed me Tex. When you coming back, Tex? I'm like, I don't know, man. A couple of weeks. I can be up there. Why? What you got? I got some things lined up. Okay, what you got? Let me know. And then we got to where I'd come into town and they would have like F-350s. 2,500 diesels and we're loading them on the semis. And then it keeps going and I'm gaining more and more trust with that kind of stuff. But now also on the side, there's a lot of grenade and, and rocket launcher, whatever talk, and, and fully automatic weapon talk.

Harley-Davidson comes to mind, even John Deere to an extent comes to mind. And again, that's a huge advantage when you have almost this mythical level of lore surrounding how people think about your business. And yet, despite the fact that F1 has been a pretty effective marketing lever for Ferrari generally, they have not been at the top of the sport for nearly 20 years now. And so Their last driver's championship was before the financial crisis back in 2007, and their last constructor's championship was in 2008. So while they have been good, they really have not been the best in a long time. And then that kind of works against you, right? If you're trying to have the reputation of justifying $600,000 cars, you probably should be associated with being the best of the best. And so things have turned around a little bit with them currently being second in the team standings behind Mercedes.
