They did the trick with the reflections, you know, with it based on where the hinge is too. I watched British Bake Off on it. It was a lovely experience. You can say that.
Allison Johnson · The Vergecast · How we really feel about the iPhone Duo | Livestream · 2026-10-21Greg really ran that team to the finish line, you know what I mean? Um, the display feels vastly more solid than any of the other foldables, partially because it's matte, so it has texture and it doesn't really have a lot of give. Like, right in the middle it has some give because that's where the hinge is, but other foldables, even, even the ones that have— I think the Z Fold 8 is a glass screen technically, like it's a very thin flexible glass— it still feels soft and plasticky, and this does not have any of that.
Nilay Patel · The Vergecast · How we really feel about the iPhone Duo | Livestream · 2026-10-21And I think what's going on there is those guys learned how to shoot a surprise shot first. And those guys, almost all those guys, those target guys, they use a hinge.
Joe Rogan · The Joe Rogan Experience · #2569 - Bill Thompson · 2026-10-21And, or at least sometimes they use a hinge. A lot of them use thumb buttons now, but, and they use a thumb button like a hinge. They just load it up with back pressure until it goes off.
Joe Rogan · The Joe Rogan Experience · #2569 - Bill Thompson · 2026-10-21Hey, good morning, Carl. So Apple, it's doubling down on its US supply chain for its two latest iPhones just days before the duo goes on sale in stores. Apple telling me that it will commit up to $100 million over 3 years to Pennsylvania-based Perryman, which will supply titanium for its first foldable. Apple is also tapping Delaware-based Qunity to make a key component behind one of the iPhone 18 Pros new camera features. All of it falling under the company's broader American manufacturing program, with Apple planning $600 billion in US spending even as final assembly remains overseas. But this doesn't do much for the duo's near-term supply crunch. The real bottlenecks are still the hinge and display, with Wall Street now expecting around 8 to 9 million shipments this year, which is fewer than the 10 million-plus initially forecast. Still, it gives the White House an easy win to point to more of Apple's supply chain moving to the US just as the duo hits stores on Friday.
Mackenzie Sigalos · Squawk on the Street · 11AM Hour: Impactive Capital's Lauren Taylor Wolfe, Former TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer & GM Tumbles After Earnings 10/20/26 · 2026-10-20But that means that the wealth in the deferred accounts is continuing to grow as a percentage. And if you're decumulating or you're using some of the other assets, it's going to be even, even bigger of a percentage. Again, I think this is like a fascinating— there's a circular problem here in personal finance and financial independence that hinges on this, right? You spend the whole career contributing to the tax-deferred account. It's now a very big number, and that number is going to get bigger and bigger and bigger as long as you guys continue continue working, and then, you know, like, you are a real RMD, you know, challenge here that's coming one day without that. Is that something you think about? Or how do I think about financial independence and the circle that is tax-deferred contributions, continuing to work after hitting financial independence, not being able to access any of the money in the 401k or the deferred account, is certainly not in the current year or the next year without extremely bad tax arbitrage from the early contributions? How do I think about that? Am I framing the reasonably?
Speaker E · BiggerPockets Money · How to Reach Coast FI by 45 and Build a Life You Actually Want · 2026-10-20North Carolina in the Senate is going to flip to, to Democrats. Republicans have effectively ceded that race. I think the next ones that are possible to flip are Maine and perhaps even Texas. And from there, the majority hinges on Alaska, Ohio, Iowa, and even Kansas. But the fact that this is being fought in double-digit Trump states, states that are between 13 points that Trump carried just 2 years ago to 16 points, just shows how much his approval rating has dropped there. You see it's going even— it's not going in the correct direction for him in these last few weeks. That 33% is a Bush low mark, really. I mean, this is just a disastrous area that you don't want to be if you are a president that has these midterms coming up in just over 2 weeks now.
Jessica Taylor · Bloomberg Surveillance · Bloomberg Surveillance TV: October 19th, 2026 · 2026-10-19I wonder if it's— because I agree that that's what we should be encouraging, and that's the whole ball game. Uh, but I wonder if it's happening naturally. Like, I wonder if the decline of dating apps is maybe a signal that young people are saying, okay, enough with this BS. Like, they're kind of starting to get it. I mean, I don't want to get my hopes up because I think that the underlying numbers and the underlying trend around loneliness and our screen addictions is still really bad. But I do look at stories like this where it's like, okay, there's like a little glimmer of hope that young people are kind of realizing, okay, this live my life on a screen thing is kind of a shitty deal and I'm not actually getting anything out of it. I'm going to delete the dating app, I'm going to delete Hinge, I'm going to delete Bumble, I'm going to delete all of this stuff and I'm actually going to go outside and spend some time trying to talk to someone. And I don't know, maybe we're reading too much into it to say, oh, maybe the beer sales is a reflection of that. But I don't know.
Ed Elson · Prof G Markets · Why The Stock Market Is Booming — But Your Paycheck Isn't · 2026-10-19First Amendment because association, because you're not supposed to— you're being an FBI agent is not supposed to hinge on your having politics compatible with the president, and then also a separation of powers argument that relates to two of them, and it gets into, and the other thing that's interesting is that, you know, there is this tough thing with some FBI agents are not covered by the Civil Service Reform Act, so they would not be covered by MSPB, not have to go to merit system protections board, but a couple of them do because they're higher-level people and there are statutory protections, and there's also military veterans, um, and, and there's a very good— so you run into this problem of do they really have to go through this no longer,
Roger Parloff · The Lawfare Podcast · Lawfare Daily: The Trials of the Trump Administration, October 16 · 2026-10-19Seinfeld says it's all over and it's no joke for NBC. The article reads, Seinfeld, the most popular television comedy of the 1990s and the centerpiece of the most profitable night in television history, will stop production at the end of this season. Jerry Seinfeld, the show's creator and star, said yesterday— yesterday being Christmas Day 1997— Mr. Seinfeld said his decision did not hinge on money. Instead, he wanted to follow the tradition of stand-up comedians and leave the stage with the audience wanting more. Jerry would later say about the decision, I thought about the audience, how are they feeling 'Where are they?' I was trying to perceive it like a comedian on the stage.
David Rosenthal · Acquired · ca0df1168651e0a51be7d6012432411f · 2026-10-19Kristen, they got to dig into his past. They got to find out the motivation so we can use the information to stop future attacks. I'm particularly centered on how he did shoot out the lock of the school. That's not so easy to do. You know, in Hollywood, one shot, you know, the lock opens up, but it's not really the way it works. In law enforcement, we'd had to use breaching rounds, shotgun breaching rounds, to be able to bust through hinges and locks. So I'll be interested to see if this delayed him at all. Did he have to spend a lot of time trying to shoot out that lock? Because we need higher, a lot higher security on locks like that. That's pretty obvious. And reviewing the security posture and, and what makes this guy tick, what's the motive, why is he taking revenge at his school, uh, words fall short of the cold-blooded murder of a 5-year-old, an 8-year-old, an 11-year-old. It's just, this case has just really hit the country hard. Uh, everybody I've talked to today is just like You know, just cannot believe it.
Jim Cavanaugh · Meet the Press · Meet the Press NOW — October 16 · 2026-10-16That's why I'm now much more focused on the fixed income market's continued reaction to CoreWeave and whether there is contagion to other parts of AI. Again, in my view, the banks are not leading indicators this time. In the past, I have said, as the banks go, so goes the economy. Not this time. The banks are extremely well-capitalized and their credit quality is still benign. The potential issues in AI and in private credit will determine whether and when there will be a recession. It would be much easier to predict the future if the banks were the leading indicators because the data the banks produce is voluminous and transparent, while private credit is much more opaque, making future economic weakness much trickier to foresee. Frankly, I'm starting to think that the entire future of the US economy hinges on the success or failure of AI. That's why I talk about it so much.
