And good morning, everybody. Welcome back to the Mining Stock Daily Morning Briefing. It is Wednesday, August 26th, and this morning we've got copper setting records in New York, Ontario threatening to cut off energy and critical minerals. To the US. And gold giving back a bit of ground after a strong run. It is off about 0.8% to $4,622 an ounce. It's a modest pullback after recent strength. Silver is up 0.2% to $68.78. Copper, it gave back a fraction, off about 0.17% to $6.70 a pound. But copper did hit a record in New York overnight and is closing in on all-time highs in London. The driver is the U.S. tariff threat, which has been pulling metal into American warehouses at an accelerating pace, turning what has a— what was a comfortable global surplus into a scarcity in markets outside of the United States. Inventory is being redistributed rather than consumed, and the dislocation is raising real questions about where copper goes once those flows slow or reverse. And on the trade front, Ontario Premier Doug Ford escalated the trade war rhetoric yesterday, threatening to cut off electricity and critical mineral exports to the United States in retaliation for President Trump's threats on Canadian autos and steel. It's a significant statement given that Ontario supplies power to New York State and Michigan. And that Canadian critical minerals underpin U.S. manufacturing supply chains. It's the strongest language yet from a Canadian official, and it puts resource and energy supply chains squarely back at the center of the trade standoff. We'll get to the news out of the miners and explorers here in just a moment, but first, a quick mention of today's sponsor. Today's morning briefing is brought to you by Equinox Gold. Equinox is North America's new senior gold producer. It's a title that became official in July with the completion of a business combination with Orla Mining, creating a multi-mine gold platform anticipated to produce 1.1 million ounces annually with a clear pathway to more than 1.9 million ounces through high-quality North American growth projects. Equinox Gold trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the NYSE American with the symbol EQX.
Trevor Hall — Mining Stock Daily · Morning Briefing: Vizsla Copper Hits Long High-Grade Copper Intersection at Woodjam · 2026-08-26Good morning, everybody. Welcome into this week's long-form episode here on Mining Stock Daily. I'm your host, Trevor Hall, and we have a very timely long-form conversation to get you through the rest of the trading day here on Friday and into the weekend. Welcoming back Axel Merck of Merck Investments. This was recorded Wednesday afternoon, just hours after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessin announced his plans to more than double the Treasury's buybacks of those longer-dated U.S. government debt obligations, and gold just ripped through it. So Axel and I break down what that move actually means, why the long end of the Treasury curve has been under so much pressure, and whether it's a legitimate solution or simply just Another attempt to manage the symptoms of America's growing fiscal problem. So great conversation with Axel. And then towards the end, we do ask him his perspective on the ongoing situation happening with the ASA Gold and Precious Metals Fund, where Merc Investments was recently terminated as advisors despite years of very strong performance there. Highly recommend listening to it in its entirety. Big thank you to Revival Gold, Equinox Gold, FISA Silver, and Integra Resources for their continued support of Mining Stock Daily. The support allows us to keep bringing you these conversations every trading day and into the weekend. And also a quick mention here, want to thank Terra Hutton, terrahutton.io. Mining companies, they can spend millions of dollars advancing an asset, but if investors can't find them or quickly understand the story, the work can easily go unnoticed. Terra Hutton, they do help resource companies improve their digital presence, search visibility, and online storytelling. So the progress happening on the ground is properly represented online because a great project without a story is just data. So if you're interested, if you run one of those companies and need more of an online presence, a visualization, go visit our friends over at terrahutton.io. All right, let's get into my conversation here with Axel Mark. I'm going to start off the conversation with a little bit of a story for you because I think it, it It kind of goes back to this late winter. I think it was back in February or March. Unfortunately for my children, sometimes I make them listen to Bloomberg Radio in the car.
Trevor Hall — Mining Stock Daily · Axel Merk: Treasury Is Patching the Problem—and Gold Loves It · 2026-08-21And that alone could be a standalone because in terms of carried value, it's already over $8-9 million. But we have another asset on that because with exploration, it's 1 or 0 or 1,000. So it's good to have that optionality. So we have another asset in, in the Iron Patters Suture Belt, which is in, in New Brunswick. So that is the same trend as Newfoundland Gold in Newfoundland. Kalibri Mining, which is purchased by Equinox Gold, Delradian, which is, uh, Orion's private project now, used to be Ross Beattie and Sean Rusens. And so all that is on the same trend, very prolific, um, area. The asset that we have actually has a huge land package, 445 square kilometers, but it's relatively inexpensive to do work in New Brunswick. We're talking about drill costs like $95 a meter. We have road access, we're right by the Bartlett's Camp. And in that area, traditionally it's been looked at as a base metals. Nobody has really gone in there to look at it, uh, for gold mineralization. And so we're just beginning to do work there. We have drilled only a few holes, uh, less than 2,000 meters, and, uh, and, and, and we— and the results are good. And what we were able to confirm, again with geophysics, soil sampling, and so on and so forth, that we have exactly the same geology as our next-door neighbor neighbour, which is Kinross and Puma, and this is mineralized rhyolites. So that's pretty exciting. So we all know that, you know, for anybody that is surrounding you, Kinross is not a bad one to have next to you because they didn't go in there just to do exploration play. They go in there to look for a potential mine, and if they become a mine and we're contiguous to them next door, you know, they, uh, there's an imminent, you know, potential exit strategy built in. So that's pretty exciting as well. So two projects, high, high, you know, potential. That is a sister company that we own 20% of and have common shareholders and shared services with, right? So that's been spun out recently. Um, and you asked me about the additional assets inside the company. We have another one that's really exciting, uh, it's called Digman in Ontario.
Wendy Chan — Mining Stock Daily · Lode Gold's Wendy Chan: Reactivating a Gold Mine Suspended During WWII · 2026-08-21And good morning, everybody. Welcome back to the Mining Stock Daily Morning Briefing. It's hump day, Wednesday, August 19th. And the macro picture shifting once again. Gold is the leader this morning, up 7— excuse me, 0.73% to $4,367 an ounce. Silver's adding a more modest, uh, 0.3% to $63.52. Copper is the outlier, slipping over 1% to $6.41 a pound. Japan's benchmark bond yield is on the brink of hitting 3% for the first time since the mid-1990s. This could be classified as a generational reset for a market that spent 3 decades as the world's defining example of suppressed interest rates. The Bank of Japan's gradual policy normalization, the return of domestic inflation, and mounting fiscal pressure have combined to push Japanese government bond yields to levels they are now attract— that are now attracting Japanese investors back to their own market. It's a significant— this is significant because Japan remains one of the largest foreign holders of US Treasury debt, and higher yields at home mean less incentive to fund the American deficit. The Trump administration has delayed 50% tariffs on billions of dollars of Canadian goods by 3 days after the two sides reached what officials described as a tentative agreement in a dispute that had pushed US-Canada trade relations to a fresh low. For our audience, the implications are worth watching closely because Canada is the world's most active junior mining jurisdiction, and the sustained tariff escalation could create real friction across the cross-border flows of concentrate, equipment, and exploration capital that underpin this sector. We'll get to the news out of the miners and explorers in just a moment. A quick mention of today's sponsor. Today's morning briefing is brought to you by Equinox Gold. Equinox Gold is one of the world's largest senior gold producers, operating 7 mines across Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. Trevor Hall — Mining Stock Daily · The New Rules of Capital: Gold, Bonds & America’s Mining Bet · 2026-08-14Good morning, everybody. Welcome back to this morning's Mining Stock Daily Morning Briefing. Hump day here and CPI day, Wednesday, August 12th. It is a strong morning for precious metals. Gold is up 1% at time of recording to $4,413 an ounce. Silver's up 2.5% to $66.31. Platinum, it's the outperformer this morning, up 2.7% to $1,802. Copper is modestly higher, up about 3/4 to $6.64 a pound. As I said, all eyes are this morning are on the July CPI inflation report, which is expected to be the most significant macro data point of the week for markets and for the Fed. Economists are forecasting a 0.2% increase in the headline consumer prices, which would nudge the annual rate down to 3.4%, while core inflation is estimated at 0.1% monthly and 2.5% annually. Both prints that would be consistent with continued progress towards the Fed's 2% target and could all but lock in a September rate cut. A surprise to the upside would complicate that picture significantly. Copper is back near record territory as an outage at the Gresik smelter in Indonesia began. That is the plant that processes ore from the giant Grasberg mine. The outage compounds an already severe supply squeeze. Operators Mitsubishi Materials and PT Freeport Indonesia shut the facility after a boiler leak on August 8th and have not set a restart date. London benchmark copper has held above $14,000 a ton for an unprecedented run of sessions. COMEX contracts for 2007 delivery are already trading above $7 a pound. We'll get to the news out of the miners and explorers here in just a moment, but first, a quick mention of today's sponsor. Today's morning briefing is brought to you by Equinox Gold. In late July, Equinox closed its merger with Orla Mining, creating a new North American senior gold producer with a clear path to nearly 2 million ounces of annual production from an internally funded growth pipeline. Equinox Gold trades on the TSX and the NYSE American, both under— both with the symbol EQX.
