  3. And they've kind of got this EA ethicist or whatever who's writing these things. So there's different approaches. I kind of want all of them to produce sophisticated AI to keep checks and balances, to keep these things in check. What I don't want is just a Skynet or, you know, like a woke Skynet, right? Is sort of the, the worst possible outcome. And you know, if we're gonna go like sci-fi for a second, you know, there was like a Terminator TV show. Yes. That was pretty good. They, they stopped. It was pretty good. It got canceled. This was like years and years ago. But anyway. What they figured out in the show, the plot was that the way they finally defeated Skynet was they created a good AGI to take on Skynet. They realized humans just couldn't do it by themselves, so they created a choice. Maximally good. Yeah, they trained it to be more benevolent towards humans. So in any event, if you're going to get really sci-fi about it, look, I think choice has to be our hallmark. Competition has to be our hallmark. We want multiple winners here. We don't want a small number of elites guardrailing this thing. And that, that is what you will get if you head in this FAA-FINRA direction.

  4. The EA types are not. And by the way, I experienced this when I got to Washington and all the former Biden people had just moved over to Anthropic's government affairs. I also dealt with think tank people who are part of this clique, and their frame on AI was that it was inherently dangerous and that we had to centralize control over it in the government. There should be just 2 or 3 companies. And they should essentially work together. It should be made into a cartel. Remember, you know, Mark Andreessen had a meeting with those Biden officials where he came up—

  5. This is where their hostility to open models comes from, I think, is that if they're going to slow down, they have to slow down the open models as otherwise they do get commoditized and their business goes away. However, the United States does not have jurisdiction over what happens in China, and China was not going to slow down. That was always, I think, a huge flaw in this, in this whole conception. These EA types thought they're going to institute global compute governance. Somehow they're going to get like some global agreement with China. Total pipe dream. Never going to happen. If we slow down, China is just going to race ahead.

  6. Yeah, I mean, you know, the size of the deal itself, given the market cap of the company, it's some $50+ billion. You'd assume a premium. The stock did move up sharply yesterday. Silver Lake, no stranger to doing large deals. Of course, you know, making so much money, frankly, on taking Dell private and then public, also participated in sort of as the lead investor in the take private of EA, Electronic Arts. But there, most of the money, as we've reported, the vast majority was actually Saudi equity. And you'd have to imagine in a deal for Workday, you know, you'd have to tap a lot of different sources, both for equity and for the debt to actually make that thing work. No real details in the Reuters report, but what it did remind people in the marketplace is that those who are shorting software stocks, which has become something of a way to hedge certainly, and a key way to derive some profit, at least over the last couple of years, got to be careful because you can get a move like yesterday's right in your face. The stock was up at one point almost 25%. And that's a reminder that there is going to be some perception of value at some point here. And if you were to see a follow-through and actually a deal of this size, that certainly would be— oh yeah.

  7. Yeah, very strong time. And of course, we're going to be speaking, as you just heard, to the CEO of SanDisk shortly after a very strong move in that stock after that Investor Day yesterday. Something else that happened yesterday as well, I referenced in the read at the very top of the show, is this report on potentially Workday being a target of the private equity firm Silver Lake. Uh, I don't have any reporting on this to add to what was a relatively sparse but important story from Reuters saying that there are talks going on. You know, you'd have to find a lot of money to finance this, far beyond what an equity check that's— that, uh, that Silver Lake would be able to write, of course, in the financing. Remember when they took Electronic Arts private? Of course, They were kind of the lead name in many ways, but the fact is that the Saudis were almost all of the actual equity. That said, this had an impact as well on the overall market yesterday because shorting software has been one of your key hedges. And if you're suddenly gonna wake up to a headline that sends a stock up 18%, not to mention at least the very idea that there are those in private equity who usually have a pretty good idea for value are saying, well, wait a second. Maybe now's the time. That is going to give those pause who would actually continue to short this sector. And so, uh, it was painful for any number of hedge funds that are shorted. You saw the IGV as well kind of reverse course on this, and it may sort of put out a do not go here sign to those who would venture into saying, well, we're going to continue to press the shorts on software companies.
