Yes, thanks, Dave. And it's, it's real. Just want you to know that in this world of AI, that is real. This is not the inflation data, however you want, if you're hoping the Fed can avoid rate hikes down the road. Definitely not the data that backs up rate cuts. The problem is underlying inflation, and that keeps the threat of rate hikes in play. The inflation data for the Fed's preferred indicator surprising to the upside. Here's the— sorry, that's the wrong screen. Here we have the headline year-over-year inflation at 3.7%. Take out food and energy, that's 3.3%. Focus on services, ex-energy and housing, the so-called super, super core. And it's 3.9%. Nationwide chief economist Kathy Bostianczyk, she writes, these high inflation readings should keep the FOMC overall in a hawkish mood and poised to raise rates if we do not see significant cooling in the coming months. Probability is kind of reflecting that, 40% for September, so still not a 50% probability, 55% for October, and then rising towards a much more confidence in a rate hike in December, 75% probability. At the same time, the readings on growth fairly solid, strong durables, good goods orders, but mixed data on the consumer income, up 0.4%. Take out inflation, though, the real spending rate was pretty good at 0.3%. And then spending 0.2%, but take out inflation, that's just 0.01% for real spending. The personal savings rate remaining low at 3%. Joe Baswell, this morning, he titled his piece Inflation Is Not Going Gently Into That Good Night. Several Fed committee members, they have decided it's time to recognize that. The question is whether there are others, whether there's a majority. And whether the Fed chairman has reached the same conclusion, guys.

Most of you know I am a lifelong Tennessean, that our studios operate in Franklin, Tennessee, and just south of Nashville, and many people drop by. There are several people sitting out here today watching us. We do the show from 1 to 4 live. Come visit us. And lifelong Nashvillian as well, which means that as our radio career has grown and whatever else I do around here career has grown, I've gotten to know and become friends with a lot of the country music folks around Nashville, particularly of my generation. I don't know a lot of the younger ones as well, 'cause I'm not that cool, but I know a few of them. But one of the things I've learned over the years of working with the country music community is there's a few twerps, but most of them are incredible people. People. The absolute queen of the state of Tennessee and of all the country music artists would have been Dolly Parton. And I just heard a moment ago that she just passed away, and I'm heartbroken, and as all of the world is, I'm sure, but certainly Tennesseans and those of us who— she was an absolutely Amazing woman behind the scenes as well as on the stage. Phenomenal business mind. Absolute genius at business and very well accomplished in the boardroom as much as on the stage. The things that she has pulled off, and Dollywood among them, and many, many other things. And the other thing that she's most known for among those of us— I didn't know her, but I knew Half a Degree of Separation 46 times. And, uh, incredibly generous. Every child in the state of Tennessee gets a free book every year from the Dolly Parton Foundation. She wanted to encourage reading. She grew up in Sevierville, Tennessee, in the mountains of East Tennessee, and reading was a privilege, not an automatic entitlement.
Dave Ramsey — The Ramsey Show · Quit Paying for Yesterday's Mistakes · 2026-08-26So I have been Dave-ish for pretty much my entire adult life. You know, tried to avoid bad debt, only took out quote-unquote good debt. Um, and just over the last year, I finally realized that just the way my mind works, I want to be 100% in on the Baby Steps. Um, and so part of—

John Delony — The Ramsey Show · Quit Paying for Yesterday's Mistakes · 2026-08-26Hey Dave, I am doing well. How have you been?
John Delony — The Ramsey Show · Quit Paying for Yesterday's Mistakes · 2026-08-26Yeah, but knowing what I know, the amount of data that is in my soul on this stuff, I know from sitting in this chair for 35 years, I hear that couple and my mind, the math just explodes in my mind. What's gonna happen to that couple. And their family tree. And I can't, I don't have any data to back up, the hard data to back up the health effects and the relational effects. What percentage of people never get divorced that don't have debt versus the people that have debt? Oh, wow. That's interesting. 'Cause divorce is grand. I mean, marriage is grand, but divorce is 50 grand. So, I mean, if you split your assets every so often and start over, it's hard to build wealth. Let me tell you what I get asked all the time. When should I get term life insurance? How much do I need? Is it affordable? Those are the right questions to be asking. So let's take a quick review. The fact is, term life isn't a baby step. So if anyone is dependent on your income, you need to have 10 to 12 times your income in life insurance now. And most people are surprised by how affordable term life really is, even if you're not in perfect health. Look, I understand the hesitation since most insurance companies make it more of a hassle than it needs to be. Not at Zander Insurance. They're not an insurance company. They're a broker that works for you. That means they'll shop and compare the top term life companies to find the most competitive options on the coverage for your family. For almost 30 years, I've recommended Zander for straight answers and competitive rates, and coverage that actually protects your family. Call 800-356-4282 or go to Zander.com for a quick and easy quote. That's Zander.com. Welcome back to the Ramsey Show in the Fairwinds Credit Union studio. Jade Washall is my co-host today. I'm Dave Ramsey. Sal is in New York City.
Dave Ramsey — The Ramsey Show · Quit Paying for Yesterday's Mistakes · 2026-08-26Hi, Sal, how are you? Hi, Dave. Hi, Jade.
John Delony — The Ramsey Show · Quit Paying for Yesterday's Mistakes · 2026-08-26I don't know, I usually— I'm sorry, Dave. It's okay, go ahead, you're fine. No, I was just going to say, you know, I, I, I try to, um, keep emotionally or any kind of thought or feeling towards whatever's going on over there. Not my monkeys, not my circus kind of a thing. Exactly. And that's typically what I do with that stuff. It's just where certain instances come up, something like that happened today where it hits in my brain where it's, what is my daughter really learning you know, from, from that influence.
