  1. Oh my God, what mother or father is going to do that when it comes to their child? It's impossible, Sean, to say no to someone who's hungry. How many DoorDashes of pizza have I done? How many nights has she called me at 3 in the morning and I am on my credit— on the phone with my credit card It's a son of a bitch. Meth is a son of a bitch, and it's taken my child, and I am angry. And that helps me now not be a victim but be a victor by going out on stage talking about it, talking about my mom's suicide, which is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. And talking about my daughter.

  2. I use the car every day for DoorDash and landscaping. And I also still do my perfume business here in college. But it's causing a lot of stress because I have that feeling where I have to— work every single day on top of school. I'm a full-time, you know, college student. So like, it's kind of— it's a little bit stressful, and I'm trying to figure out whether I should continue down this road or pivot now and, you know, pursue something else.

  3. Uh, yeah. Well, I'm sorry. Even though he's South African, he probably never surfed in his life. Um, but yeah, just, it's something really, the idea of having this, just like a reason why I think Siri's going to be good. I think Copilot has a head start by a long shot. It's the one that's built into the tools that a whole bunch of people, even the neophytes, already have. And when you get stuck in the pivot table in Excel, when you can lean over and be like, okay, I don't touch AI, but I am stuck. How do I make this work? And Copilot goes, hold up, give me a second. Go order DoorDash. I'll be done in a minute. And it goes, and it fixes your pivot table. And then that helps you keep a client, not lose a client, or get a raise. Copilot wins.

  5. And they have gone from last year to now working with major technology companies like DoorDash and HelloFresh, Now the basic idea here being like, you want to minimize, you want to strike a balance as a company that's working with any kind of inventory of minimizing the amount of inventory you have at any given moment, but also being constantly ready to provide your customers, whether that's other companies or, or, uh, you know, regular consumers with what they want when they want it. And that can get really tricky, especially again, nowadays when like modern supply chains are getting sort of barreled left and right, uh, by unforeseen things. And so they've had a lot of success with this. They were, interestingly enough, they're one of these companies that was sort of incubated at DVX, which is John McNeil, the former Tesla president, his VC firm, but done in a way that is a little different from what they normally do. Normally they will come up with an idea and match a CEO to it.

  6. One of the really striking things in your stories was also you mentioned DoorDash is one of the customers, and already that's like, I think, pretty impressive for an early-stage startup, you know, especially for a company like DoorDash where logistics is so crucial. But apparently, like, it sounds like, like 90% of their purchasing is being run through the Atomic system. And I was then struggling to reconcile that a little bit with the fact that, I mean, these are relatively small rounds so far. I think it's a $12.5 million round, maybe $15 million raised so far. I feel like, I don't know, a few months ago an AI company that was like working with these kinds of big customers would be raising like 10x this. Am I, am I crazy?

  7. It's a question of how many agents do we need? I saw today, I think it was DoorDash, they released an agent in the app. I mean, are we going to go into every app? Am I going to open the Subway app and have a sandwich agent that clicks on whatever I want for lunch?

  8. I mean, like, my observation on it so far is, is it, it totally depends on the business model. Right. And like, I think it was, it was last week when Muse was just like banging out like announcements about new integrations. Right. They had, they had Shopify, they had PayPal, they had Expedia, and they had Instacart all, all in the span of a couple of days. When Amazon also came out and said, no, you can't do this. But like, if you think about those business models, right, like Expedia and Instacart in particular, like they don't want to be disintermediated by agents that can go do all of these things without them being there. Right. So I mean, their incentive surely is like, if we don't do this, then the agents can either bypass us or go to Booking.com or Kayak or DoorDash instead. And so we have to do this for fear of existential risk around our business model. And then PayPal and Shopify, They don't care. Like, they make money as long as money flows. So if an agent does it or a human does it, it doesn't matter. Like, the pie is just going to grow for them.

  9. And the founder of financial firm Citadel is giving $2 billion to help build the Miami location and another $1 billion for the university's main campus in Pittsburgh. DoorDash unveiling an artificial intelligence agent for ordering food that works inside Apple's Message app. It's stepping up efforts to integrate personal AI assistance ahead of its e-commerce rivals. And again, stocks are higher at the open. The S&P 500 up a third of a percent. That's news when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Karen Moscow and this is Bloomberg.

  11. And if these agents can do comparison shopping on their own, do we really need the online travel agencies Booking Holdings and Expedia down 10%, 3% respectively since Muse launched. Heck, maybe all the aggregators in trouble. I mean, that you can include DoorDash, Uber, Lyft, at least judging by the way they've been trading. And look, in theory, the death of consumer inertia could apply to almost anything. Do you really love your property and casualty insurance plans, or are you just too lazy to comparison shop for new policies every year? Even the banks have been getting hit hard because Muse can search around for the ones that pay the best interest rates and then move your money around. So how seriously should we take this threat? Like with every AI displacement fear we have dealt with over, I don't know, years now, I think you need to use common sense, which is in short supply when we think about the consumer rapidly adopting anything as boring as cash sweeps or Lightly's websites. For example, the gym stocks have indeed been savaged over the past few weeks, but not all gym stocks are created equal.

  12. It's easier for an agent to book hotels online than it is for them to comb through rental homes and book directly from the owner. Plus, Airbnb sold off dramatically in the last month to the point where I think the stock's a steal. It may be my absolute fave of the news casualties. How about the food delivery services? Look, this isn't the first time DoorDash has gotten hit on AI displacement worries. 7 months ago, an author called Citrini Research published a doomsday fiction piece about how AI agents would make this business obsolete. The stock got crushed at the time. But then Nanofabius come back, that 150 went to 240. As for the banks and brokerages, I find it hard to believe that consumers will be happy to let AI move their money around bank to bank, night by night, just to get a few extra basis points of yield on their savings. I just don't think people want to give their banking information to these agents. There could be some friction here too. Doesn't seem safe to me. So I'm skeptical about dumping entire groups based on this idea that a gentrification means the death of consumer inertia and companies that benefit from it.

  13. If somebody is driving the car you wish you drove, if somebody's out of the student loan debt that you're still in, if somebody cut up the credit card that you're still ringing up Buy Now Pay Later and DoorDash on, ask them how they did it. Stop hating on them. It's a bad look and you need to stop.

  14. Yeah, if you have friends in the governor's office right now, I don't know, send them a DoorDash gift card or flowers or something. They're gonna need it. It's gonna be a busy little bit, right? So, so background context. Next, right? We're coming up on a transition between Governor Newsom and the next governor of California. We only have, you know, 4 months left on the clock or something like this. We're now at a point where all of a sudden we might have a real legislative session at the end of this year. And that's really the subtext of this EO, right? The EO itself can't change the law. It's, uh, as one of your former, uh, colleagues, Alan Rosenstein, uh, once said, right? It's, it's an instruction from your boss on really fancy paper, right? So this EO is just to sort of get the wheels moving, but the instructions are clear. It is give us a lot of legislative recommendations that would considerably change what the current state of the law is in California and get them to me fast. Get them by mid-November so that maybe we can act on these. It moves up, as you said, the timeline for implementing things like SB 813.

  15. So we're sending DoorDash to the governor's office. The, the outside organizations are— don't have capacity. Everyone's running a million miles a minute. Nat already kind of talked about this, but Mackenzie, I would love your take on does that extend to Congress? Do we think we're going to actually get some quick movement here, or is that the one place where, where people are still, you know, they don't need any DoorDash? It's still going to be slow.
