The playbook that they have used for a long time is essentially copying our IP. Creating cheaper alternatives of that particular technology, dumping them in the United States, getting our businesses to go out of business, and then, and then squeezing us. And I think you've seen that with a wide variety of technologies over the years. And I think it's something that we need to be very, very cognizant of. I think the second area, which, you know, they've taken action on and, or threatened action on, is around some of our critical minerals, which we realize are a very important piece of our larger sort of like tech and science ecosystem, if you will. Supply chain. So those are things that we have to constantly be thinking about and preparing ourselves to be able to be independent.
Michael Kratsios — All-In with Chamath, Jason, Sacks & Friedberg · Michael Kratsios: Trump's Science Agenda, Anti-Science Claims, Fauci's Damage, DEI & China · 2026-08-24They're kicking the can down the road. They're trying to trade some relief from the short-term pain for long-term pain. But the long-term pain is going to come when all this short-term debt matures and it has to be rolled over, or because the Fed is cognizant of that vulnerability, it doesn't raise interest rates.
Peter Schiff — The Peter Schiff Show Podcast · The Treasury Just Admitted It... The Bond Market Is Broken · 2026-08-20Yeah, Todd, I mean, the timing of the market is certainly, you know, we have a counter-seasonal rally on our hands. Typically, as you mentioned, we make those highs and then, you know, away we go. I think we're in a little different situation this year because of— if you widen the scope a little bit, we've had a pretty good, you know, drawdown in global wheat stocks. We're having a drawdown in global corn stocks. Our carryout-to-use ratio globally in corn is at a point that it hasn't been really, you know, since the early 2000s. And all of a sudden, I think global buyers are starting to take notice of this. So that goes back to the point of supply focus now shifting over to demand focus. Doesn't mean we don't get a spot in terms of board pricing between now and harvest because we're certainly not going to run out of supply between now and then. But I think some of the grain buyers that are out here and the originators realize that it's going to be a very competitive environment. There's going to be less bushels out there to compete for. So it's a mix of, you know, making sure you're watching both fronts, the basis and the board price to do that. But at this particular point, I mean, if you Brian's point, I mean, if you look at these corn here today at $5.03, we went up and checked that summer high at $5.06 and a half today, didn't quite get through it. Maybe we will, maybe we won't. But if you've been waiting for a chance to sell corn and you're not caught up, whether that's on forward sales that deliver after harvest or whether that's on your harvest sales, I think you need to be, you know, pretty cognizant of just stepping on the gas pretty quickly to get that done because things can change very quickly. We'll have a number of other private and co-op type tours that are coming in here in the next couple of weeks. My anticipation would be that they kind of confirm what we're seeing from Pro Farmer, but that's not necessarily a given. And so, you know, I think you need to, you need to be paying attention to your marketing here in the short term and be very proactive.
Dave Chatterton — Commodity Week · Aug 20 | Commodity Week · 2026-08-20Do you think many of these union members are cognizant of this, or are they kind of victimized here too? And I bring this up because, you know, if you've— and I know you have, but if anyone else has studied, you know, Cold War and post-Cold War politics, especially in Europe, I think of Poland and I think of the labor movement, Solidarity. They were very much part and parcel the harborers of the end of communism in Poland, and that had such ripple effects towards the end of the Soviet Union. And without the likes of someone like Lech Walesa, I don't know how Poland might have fared over the years following him. So to see a labor union, a labor movement organization with its, again, its tentacles in the social end of things, the political end of things, to sort of be doing the exact opposite of what we saw the labor union movement do in Europe during the Cold War, it's a little hard to wrap your head around.
Eben Brown — The Fox News Rundown · Evening Edition: Powerful U.S. Union Under the Microscope for Ties To Cuban Government · 2026-08-18Yes, I would. I would throw AI into that, the whole revolution, the technological revolution, the AI, the data centers, the electric vehicles, robotics, all of that I would put into that whole digitization. Area. The debt, you know, we've talked a lot about the debt that has to be front and center from our perspective, even though a lot of people say, well, it hasn't blown up yet, so why worry about it? Well, that just means we're that much closer to a problem. And so we think you have to invest cognizant of the debt issues. The continued debasement trade in currencies, it's inevitable. The pressure that is on our currencies because of the monetary and also fiscal policies of our governments. They just continue to spend recklessly. Deglobalization, that continues to be a major, major trend, that whole reshoring and the tension between China and the United States. That's not going away anytime soon. And the two wars are only exacerbating that situation. And maybe, you know, I don't have to tell you about, you know, more Chinese interest in Taiwan and so forth. So I mean, that's that whole critical minerals, protecting ourselves, not having these dependencies on the global economy the way we have over the last 4 decades. That's a big trend. The demographics also are a big trend. And the last I'd say are dear valuations. I mean, the market is not cheap, it's expensive. And so if you're a value investor and you're trying to protect capital and you're trying to grow it prudently, you're focused on valuation of these businesses and trying to understand them so that you can actually put a rational value on the businesses. And so there's a lot of hot businesses out there right now, which are, in our view, very, very difficult to value and understand where they're going to be 3 to 5 years from now. So those are some of the, the big picture kind of trends that we are focusing on and then trying to find businesses within those longer-term secular trends that are positioned well, trade at reasonable prices, and are pretty defensive. Like, in other words, they have robust business models that aren't going to disappear overnight. And that's very important for our investors because, as you know, we're focused investors.
Jonathan Wellum — Thoughtful Money with Adam Taggart · With Trust Breaking The World Over, Quality Collateral Is Now Key | Jonathan Wellum · 2026-08-18It is influencing, you know, all of the price ratios and so forth, the S&P, you know, PE ratios and so on, the NASDAQ. And that is something that people should be very much cognizant of, particularly if you're trying to protect your capital and grow it prudently and carefully.
Jonathan Wellum — Thoughtful Money with Adam Taggart · With Trust Breaking The World Over, Quality Collateral Is Now Key | Jonathan Wellum · 2026-08-18We transmitted the money to ICANN well ahead of time because we're cognizant of the deadline for payment, which is 7 days after the close of the window. So we were all done bar a couple of strings. We had a couple of strings that we were putting in there at the last minute, but it's been a bit of a monumental task, and the team around us, both staff and external resources, have just been outstanding. They've been truly outstanding. So we haven't really gotten ourselves in the situation where we were backed into that last day frenzy. We didn't want to be there. We wanted to be a bit more organized than that.
