This final note on the way out today, I was gonna say something about how Campbell's, McCormick, and other food makers are warning there are sharp price hikes coming. But you know what, I have just about enough of inflation for today. So instead, libraries. Ohio, Utah, and Washington lead the country in the number of public library checkouts per person, 11 per person in 2024, almost double the national average. This is via Axios. Sabri Ben Nishor · Marketplace · Inflation trumps wage gains · 2026-09-11Meantime, the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a lifeline for the global economy, is in jeopardy as the Houthis have tightened their grip on the shipping route. Houthi forces have reportedly captured Perim, an island in the middle of that vital strait. This is— talks between the U.S. and Iran do not appear to be on the table, but plans are underway to hold a meeting on Monday with Persian Gulf states and Iran to discuss regional issues and the outcome of Iran-Oman negotiations on safe shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz. Food prices are expected to increase for the rest of the year due to rising energy and fertilizer costs as well as tariffs on imports. Companies from ConAgra to Campbell's are planning to raise prices on certain products, including frozen dinners and meals, to maintain profit margins. Spice and condiment maker McCormick& Company has said it expects higher prices to bolster results in the second half of this year. Campbell's says it plans to raise prices by 4-5% on about 60% of its products. Products, mostly meals and snacks. That's news when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. That pissed a lot of people off. It did. But I would come home, and I would have some Campbell's soup. It was fantastic. But you can imagine that the quality of the product was actually probably pretty bad back then. And I would assume that it's gotten far worse. And so if we could get Justin in there to fix it up, get it back on track, I would love to see that.

But I imagine the forward-deployed nature of your business, that becomes valuable once a company is post-50 employees, like they're past any self-serve tools, they need deep integrations, or is the most value going to the really big companies? We were talking about Campbell's Soup earlier. I'm sure they have thousands of employees. Like who is the ripest type of corporation that needs help transforming?

Trade Desk is the news today, but earlier in the week, Uber 3K, Campbell's, I think— I don't know the number on Campbell's— Volkswagen 50K. So that's— we'll have to keep an eye on that as hiring plans get written for '27.

Footballs, basketballs, volleyballs. I could think of some other ways, but first let's do the numbers. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 624 points. 1.2% to finish at 53,686. The Nasdaq added 366 points, 1.4% to close at 26,584. And the S&P 500 found 81 points, just shy of 1.1% to end at 7,747. Campbell's reported that its sales and profits for the year are going to fall short of Wall Street's expectations. The packaged food maker's salty snacks business is taking some of the blame. Campbell's cooled 7%. Tyson Foods says its profit margin in the beef market is getting squeezed. Tyson dropped 7.25%. Bonds rose. The yield on the 10-year T-note fell to 4.77%. Snacks is a very challenged segment for them, particularly on chips, which is— or salty snacks, which is, you know, we have seen in the past year salty snack sales as the category, it has slowed down. People are more conscious about what they're eating, you know, dieting, GLP-1, might play into that as well. And also it has become really aggressive in terms of pricing. I mean, PepsiCo has 60% of their— of, of the salty snacks market. So definitely that, that seems to be working against them, against Campbell's.
