  1. Not really much. I guess they are considering reforming rules to make it more attractive. The governments are lobbying to try to make key companies list there. Even if you just look at some of the, the companies who have debuted this year, Italian software company Bending Spoons, they own AOL. They raised almost $2 billion. They're up 45% year to date. Doncaster's is a well-known company in Europe, a British engineering company. They're up 34%. They raised more than $1 billion in their IPO. So we're just seeing more quantum of capital here in the US. Obviously, there's so much potential passive money. So if you are able to go public and get included in the Nasdaq 100, the S&P 500, that's another appealing part of it. Okay.

  2. Yeah, I mean, it's definitely a tale of two worlds. You know, the AI-native new companies are just growing at rates we've never seen before. And then the last-generation SaaS companies pre-AI, I think there are many of them that are not really making the transition that well or don't really know how to do that. And then there's some that have super exciting AI products that are ramping very quickly alongside their kind of traditional business. And so I think that's really what companies need to figure out. Is there something that you can do with AI to your customer base on top of your existing platform? How good are you at doing that? If you do that well, then the public markets and that path is probably open to you. If you can't, you're probably looking at bending spoons or a PE outcome or being a good cash flow business, which is all right. Okay.

  3. Pretty amazing. And that is the backstop, isn't it, Sachs? We've talked about this. If nobody in the public markets wants to own these companies and private equity sees the way we talked about, uh, bending Spoons, I think, last week, a whole bunch. There is now, I think— I don't want to call them bottom feeders, but what would you call them, Gavin? Like, um, you know, sharp, uh, acquirers of, of money printing businesses that want to extract even more revenue from it. Yes, Axe, this is a good turn of events that there is a buyer for these companies.

  4. They've been oversold. Yeah. And so here they go. There must be some value in that. And if you use AI to run these, I think that was the thing Bending Spoons is doing really well. They get rid of 80% of the employees and then put the 20% who are left as AI-first employees and they figure out how to get all of this incredible revenue. There's your breaking news, Gavin Baker. Amazing. Tied right now. Just so you know, I looked at the metrics before we got on today. You're now tied. With Brad Gerstner in terms of ratings. You and Brad Gerstner are neck and neck and tied for 5th bestie, which means one of you will drop to 6th bestie, um, if this continues. And we'll see, Brad Gerstner may be on next week, so we'll see which bestie takes the 5th slot. David Sachs, great to see you. Hey, maybe we'll get you around later. Maybe we can get a steak. You want to get a steak later? I'm— I got Thursday night off here.

  5. That's right. So kids, if you're looking for a fun weekend project, the Riemann hypothesis remains out there waiting to be solved. Now, Kevin, that brings us to our next subject here in Running the Numbers, and that is SAS math. By SAS, of course, I mean software as a service. Did you see the recent article in the Wall Street Journal about Airtable being acquired by Bending Spoons for a fraction of its last private valuation?

  6. But despite the fact that we were not Airtable users, Kevin, in 2021, at the sort of like peak COVID remote work SaaS mania, Airtable was valued at $11.7 billion when it was acquired. Recently though, Kevin, Bending Spoons was able to get Airtable for an enterprise value of $1.29 billion. So what do we make of the sharp decline here as we run the numbers?

  7. I mean, I don't know whether this is a case of a company that was just badly managed. Managed. My impression though is that this is sort of gonna be the case for a lot of those, uh, enterprise software companies that got very valuable in the early 2020s, um, and are now seeing that AI is sort of eating away at their margins. You know, this software is not cheap to use if you're a big company, like an Airtable subscription can be quite pricey. And if you are a customer of Airtable, you have probably thought to yourself over the last year So maybe I can make a free version of this and cut back on my subscription. And I think enough people doing that and enough customers leads to the outcome that we saw here with Bending Spoons.

  8. Yeah, I think if your business is a fancy spreadsheet, you are in for a rough time. You know, mostly I wanted to discuss this because I think people should know about the company Bending Spoons. Bending Spoons is, of course, the natural enemy to Hard Fork, because if they can bend a spoon, what else can they bend? But Bending Spoons is this Italian company They actually went public at the start of July, but what they do is they essentially acquire like zombie tech brands, right? So after a software company has outlived its usefulness, Bending Spoons comes in like a private equity company and they try to figure out how can we squeeze the maximum amount of money out of the remaining customers. Now, I'm sure they would phrase it differently, but I am bringing this up because if you use a product and you see a headline that, uh, it is that it has been acquired by Bending Bending Spoons, you in danger, girl. Okay, so I'm just telling you, keep alert to this possibility.
