  4. I wonder where all this goes because I recently DoorDash something from Best Buy and it was an amazing experience because it was faster than me driving to Best Buy and back because they found a local driver who was able to just pick it up. So there was like no way that I could ever outperform it because that was the first time you ordered like local delivery or— I mean, it was just, it was the first time I ordered delivery that wasn't like—

  5. You don't have to wait for Meta to curate and approve all the titles. People can build all kinds of experimental shit. I feel I feel similar. Um, I reviewed the Steam Deck at launch. I called it a glorious mess. Uh, I said it was, I said it was not ready. I said that if it was sold at Best Buy, people would return it in droves. These are, these are almost my exact words at the time when the Steam Deck came out. And, but this is what Valve does. It creates a product. Um, it, it gets the hardware mostly right the first time after spending years on it. It ships it unfinished. And so I would not buy this today, but I may regret not having bought it in the future if it follows the same trajectory as the Steam Deck, because, and this is the other thing, I, I, I enjoyed being a beta tester of the Steam Deck and I'm enjoying being a beta tester of the Steam Frame. So if you're the kind of person who could see yourself who think you might enjoy being— paying for the privilege of being a beta tester, if you're the kind of person who thinks you might enjoy paying for the privilege of being a beta tester of a gadget that is theoretically this exciting and can do as many things as it can already do, just with some weird quirks, um, I don't know if you'd regret it.

  6. The answer is that as Home Depot scales, it's not just Costco for hardware. Costco is a general merchandise retailer, like you said in the intro, Ben, and Home Depot is a specialty merchandise retailer. On the surface, these things look kind of similar, like a Home Depot store looks like a Costco store. But in specialty retailing, it's not enough just to have the classic holy trinity of price, selection, and convenience that Walmart and Costco and Amazon are all built on. You also need to serve the customer in ways that are wholly unique and specific to each specialty market. So if you think about like tire and auto shops, they need to offer fast quality installation of tires and auto parts, right? Or beauty, right? Like beauty needs to offer in-store sampling and makeovers or even like Apple and Best Buy. They need to offer the Genius Bar and the Geek Squad to help with troubleshooting, specifically expertise that serves the customer. Nobody's serving the customer in a Costco except at the checkout aisle. It's like you go grab your toilet paper, you check out.

  7. So a couple years into Nardelli's tenure, customer satisfaction among Home Depot shoppers falls to the lowest level of any major US retailer. So all the major US retailers, you know, there's annual surveys of customer satisfaction at everything from Best Buy to Costco to Walmart to Home Depot to Lowe's. Home Depot goes from near the top to dead last.

  8. My time at the World Bank was great. After grad school, went there and worked and studied food supply and really was, you know, the bank was interested in the question. We have so many people moving to the middle class in East Asia. About 200 million a year at that time. And then moving to the middle class in East Asia at the time, in the late '90s, turn of the century, meant that you were moving from one meal a day with protein to two meals a day with protein, not going out like we think in the, in the US and buying TVs at Best Buy, but you were moving up the protein scale. And what has happened throughout time, and if you study it, it's like once populations move up the protein scale, they rarely move back down without massive unrest, civil unrest, war, many of the things that are the negative attributes that are unsettling to society. So you have this, you have this population boom of people moving up the protein scale. And at the same time in Asia in the mid-'90s, you started to see a plateau of arable and tillable land and production, agricultural production. So you actually started seeing land not only in Asia but around the world start— farmland in particular start to shrink. Farmland with water, irrigated farmland was shrinking. So you had this complex problem that the bank was interested in. And as we see— as we've seen this play out, you know, we moved from in the late '90s from 6 billion people on the planet to 8 billion today. And not only we have seen that, but we've seen an increase in protein production per capita. So more people eating more protein with less land. So how does that work? You know, there's some, some technology improvements, but even with technology improvements, what has happened is we've— world food stocks have declined, and that's important. By food stocks means if we don't grow another crop, how many days do we have left to feed the people on this planet? And currently that sits around 70 days. 10 years ago was 110 days. So even with technology, we see more climate impact, less land. And it's relevant today because we're about ready to embark on a super El Niño.

  9. Why was Dave so sure that the long bond controlled Delta's share price and not the fundamentals of the actual business? Because that's how the stock market works. Look at what happened today. The long bond went right through 5.3%, relentless run unlike any I can remember, just tracking oil all the way up. The 30-year is inexorable and it's taking things with like a landslide. First and most obvious are mortgage rates. Today they breached 7%. Oh man, new existing home sales were awful. Rates kept— were kept so long in this country that frankly, you're almost going to have to double your mortgage rate if you buy a new place. So why ever sell your old place? It's put a lot of— a lot of houses out of reach. New homebuyers might not be able to afford that 7% rate. It defeats the American dream. Housing is 10% of the economy, but it punches well above its weight. Think about how many things go into a house. Think about the materials, the wages, the brokers, the lawyers, the plumbers, the electricians, the landscaping. Just a shootin' works. And the retailers from RH to Best Buy to Home Depot and Lowe's.

  12. Yeah, John, I do think that valuation story is really important, but also the question for Adobe is more about what does their business model look like in the future? And if you go back 15 years, that was really what the innovation of the, you know, the outgoing CEO was. Hey, we gotta go from selling a box in Best Buy to this subscription-as-a-service model that really turned around the company. Is a caretaker CEO the right choice in that environment where disruption could be on the horizon?

  13. Yeah, August was good. I dropped my kid off at school. Nothing screams confident masculinity like crying in your car when your son walks out of Best Buy with his own mini fridge. But yeah, it's, yeah, it's, that was the big deal was dropping my kid off at school.

  15. So, and that's not possible in the old way because obviously Ticketmaster wants them on Ticketmaster and SeatGeek wants to see. And so our model is like, you know, if you got AirPods, they do control the distribution. Apple says, I want some in Best Buy, I want some at Target, I want some Amazon. I could do it like we give the teams the total control to distribute. And that's a, that's a totally different model.
