  1. Yeah. And American Express got clobbered too. I think our concerns that white-collar America was in deep, deep trouble. So yeah, there are, there are definitely times where there are severe market dislocations and very astute, uh, people can take advantage of that.

  2. So I'm currently the, as you described, I am responsible for the digital product engineering for all things pharmacy systems that deal with real, with physical medications across CVS Health, which obviously is a super important thing for our patients and consumers. I also have responsibilities for a new endeavor that I mean, we may be talking later called Health 100, which is a separate subsidiary of CVS Health that is focused on consumer engagement, digital engagement. I've been here for about 3 years almost. And then before that, for about 3 years, this is where Beckers and I and Scott and I have met. I was the similar role, Chief Digital Information Officer at a a well-known hospital system in South Florida. So if you count the years I've joined, I've moved into healthcare in the middle of the pandemic in the fall of 2020. And I think it was one of your previous podcasts that we did together where basically somebody said you moved from Disney, which is the— I spent the 7 years before. To healthcare in the middle of a pandemic in the sense of what were you thinking? But that was exactly the right thing to do with all the needs for digital and now more than that with AI that healthcare has. So before that, Disney for about 7 years and before that American Express for 12 years and all focused on consumers, customers, members, patients, whatever, whatever you want to call them. So just in case you're wondering about this, you know, finance, you know, uh, entertainment, then healthcare, I, uh, I usually go where I believe the biggest, uh, opportunity for change and transformation is. And clearly healthcare, not, uh, CVS in particular, but clearly healthcare as an industry, as an ecosystem, probably could benefit from folks like myself coming from other industries with an intense focus on, on consumer experience. Whether I find these opportunities or they find me, that's still an open question. I love it.

  3. Let's go talk about the market rotation we are in the midst of. We kind of had that in the month of July, then you had the bounce back and a lot of the AI names in the first half, call it, of August. Now we are rolling back over and seeing that rotation. You see, saw a lot of weakness today in the hardware names from Nvidia to Micron to SanDisk to Marvel Technologies, even Meta down 4% on the day, Tesla down, Oracle and Amazon down. And then a lot of the industrial companies related to AI, Caterpillar, Givernova, Applied Materials, Lam Research, et cetera. But there was a lot of green in places like healthcare. Eli Lilly up 3.6%, Johnson Johnson 3.3%, AbbVie up over 3%, Gilead up over 3%, et cetera. The finance space was a bit mixed. A lot of the big banks were strong with JPMorgan and Bank of America up, same with Charles Schwab and American Express. But you have some losses in names like Robinhood, clearly linked to tech portfolios, shall we say. So I think this is a rotation that is about to resume. Could be wrong, but that's what the hairs in the back of my neck are telling me. We also had news from the Financial Times, which is reporting that Kevin O'Leary is expected to use the Jackson Hole speech coming up in 10 days, on the 28th, to unveil a new framework for the Fed, clarifying where things that he might have said didn't really hit with markets. Uh, what would that reaction be? We'll see. But that's something the market's starting to brace for. What's he going to say, and how will that impact the, the trend of interest rates, which certainly have been higher? Will you get a breakout in rates, or maybe a pullback in rates? Or maybe nothing at all, but we'll see. We have Nvidia earnings coming up on the 26th. That's the next big area of focus for AI. That's coming up in a little over a week. But like I said, it's really about a market that is rotating. The Middle East, there's no real action there. Oil continues to kind of grind higher. I could easily see a breakout to the upside in the medium term. The dollar was flat on the day.

  4. But I got guys telling me it should have been $75 billion. And you're starting to see the U.S. government contracts that were running off for 6 months beginning in March really come into play. And I know that there's some big contracts that have just been won. OpenAI, I mean, you know, OpenAI is talking about how they just won Amex. They just got a Microsoft contract that's bigger and they're now because they're now on AWS. And it's so easy to say something negative right now. It's extraordinary. I mean, really, thank heavens for Home Depot. Thank heavens for— I mean, when we get a plus 1 and it's really great. Wow. We are so easy to play.

  5. I mean, Wells Fargo has a credit card that you can use for rent and get points. The points economy piece was very good where people join American Express and they actually feel like they get points back that are equal, if not better, than what they pay. I mean, look, that's— American Express got a pretty good thing. Sapphire's got a good thing. The points economy is real. You can ask my wife. She gets those $250.

  6. I think that's kind of the golden question right now. I mean, this is something Matt mentioned, you know, for 14 consecutive quarters, Berkshire was aggressively hoarding cash, kind of signaling the broader market looked vastly overvalued. You know, breaking that streak to become a net buyer of nearly $20 billion in a single quarter, especially while the indices are sitting near all-time highs, I think it tells us that Abel through Berkshire, they're not just waiting, you know, for a market crash. It also doesn't mean that the entire market is cheap. I think we are seeing a lot of overvaluation in a wide range of sectors right now. To me, the bigger takeaway is that under Abel's leadership, Berkshire is aggressively hunting for those high conviction pockets of value. You know, you think about how they just boosted the Alphabet stake by about 83%, pouring $10 billion through private placement to fund Google's AI infrastructure recently. You're looking at a roughly $38 billion bet that vaults Alphabet into Berkshire's top 3 holdings alongside Apple. And American Express. So I would argue that Abel, he isn't throwing out the value investing playbook, but I think he's modernizing it for the current era that we're in with a lot of focus on the dominant tech infrastructure that is fueling a lot of the current stock market and the broader global economy. And I know we'll talk about this a bit more in a second, but what makes this shift really interesting is how Abel funded it by cleaning house, trimming some of those financial and retail stakes like Bank of America, Kroger, and then funneling that right back into a lot of these bets into the future of tech and AI. And I find that to be a really, really fascinating shift.

  7. Good morning, everybody. Welcome to Squawk Box right here on CNBC. We are live from the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square. I'm Becky Quick, along with Andrew Ross Sorkin. Joe is off today. Berkshire Hathaway bulking up on Alphabet shares. According to Berkshire's latest 13-F filing, it bought $17 billion worth of Alphabet stock in the second quarter. That made Google, the Google parent, the third largest holding in Berkshire's equity portfolio, which is worth more than $36 billion. That holding. Berkshire's biggest stakes are in Apple and American Express. About 60% of the more than 48 million Alphabet shares that Berkshire added came in a private placement sale that the companies announced back in early June, but it was buying in the open market as well. And in other moves, Berkshire added to its position in Delta Air Lines and, and in Macy's. It also added to its stake in the homebuilder Lennar, and it bought back shares of Berkshire too.

  8. Welcome back. We are about 30 minutes into the hour here. 3 big movers we're watching this morning. First up, Astera Labs higher on an upgrade from Northland, which takes the stock to outperform here. The price target also hiked to $350 from $225, representing about 9% upside. Analysts bullish on what they call a, quote, longer than expected infrastructure infrastructure spending cycle and positive earnings revisions. That stock up about 3.3% right now. Then L Harris falling after the company announced its CEO is stepping down after a code of conduct violation. The company did reaffirm full-year guidance, but that stock down more than 3% right now. And we're watching shares of Alphabet. Berkshire Hathaway bolstering its stake in Google's parent company during the second quarter, according to the firm's 13-F filing, which shows positions as of the end of June. Berkshire Hathaway had purchased $7 billion of Alphabet during Q2, and that is in addition to the $10 billion the firm invested in a private placement as part of Alphabet's upsized $85 billion equity capital raise in early June. The firm now holds about $37 billion in Alphabet, its third largest holding behind only American Express and Apple. Berkshire Hathaway is now one of Alphabet's top 10 investors as well. Quarter to date, Alphabet declined about 3%, but it's up about 9% this year or so. Also in the quarter, Berkshire boosted its stake in Delta by about 44% to hold more than $5 billion worth of the airline. The firm also paring back some financials exposure, selling a bit more of Bank of America as well as Ally Financial. Its Capital One holding was cut in have here, guys.
