All, all true. And obviously, this is the annuity market. So we're talking sort of life insurance kind of, of products. I mean, this has been it. But private credit, which you cover very closely, to your point, there are any number of affiliated party transactions, but they are typically disclosed, or at least we believe they are. Yes. Athene obviously is one of the biggest out there in the annuity market. In fact, I think they are the largest. Yeah, I think there are as much as 8% owned by Apollo, but they clearly say, hey, We've disclosed everything, but does it put more of a spotlight on that as well?
David Faber — Squawk on the Street · 10AM Hour: Nvidia Ahead, Meta Settles, & PCE Comes In Hot 8/26/26 · 2026-08-26I think that is the key question. And we've seen shares of the ones who do have bigger insurance arms. You mentioned Apollo and Athene, KKR, Brookfield, Blackstone. You know, they've been kind of trading lower, whether it's around sentiment with regard to related party transactions, unclear at this point in time. But sentiment is definitely, you know, not great around the practice. So to your point, the disclosures are there. I think it's whether additional regulation, you know, comes to the forefront and gets more involved in what's going on.
Leslie Picker — Squawk on the Street · 10AM Hour: Nvidia Ahead, Meta Settles, & PCE Comes In Hot 8/26/26 · 2026-08-26Take the city of Athens, Ohio. In 1997, the city acquired a historic armory building that used to belong to the Ohio National Guard. Andrew Chicky is the city's deputy service safety director. We spent the better part of 25 years debating, arguing, envisioning, re-envisioning what that space could be.
Adrian Ma — The Indicator from Planet Money · Could politics put your city's funding at risk? · 2026-08-24That's almost a quarter century where this historic building sat empty. Then Athens received $2.5 million in ARPA funds. It committed $500,000 of that to renovate the armory, and that encouraged other investors to pitch in with their own funds.
Wailin Wong — The Indicator from Planet Money · Could politics put your city's funding at risk? · 2026-08-24Right. I moved into this role about 4 months ago, but I actually started my career in the insurance and healthcare industry when I was in college. I was a risk management major at the University of Georgia and took an internship with a consulting company that focused on benefits, and I ended up working there for the full 2 years, the rest of the time that I was in school, and then got a job with another consulting company after that in Augusta. So, um, started my career in that space. The agency that I worked for outside of Athens was pretty progressive in the stuff that they were doing. And so when I went to the consulting company in Augusta after school, some of the first things that I did were leasing a color copier, instituting a CRM, different things like that. But I had the opportunity to work with small employers, large employers on retiree plans, and that offered a lot of experience. From there, I was offered a position with a payer who was expanding outside of Metro Atlanta for the first time, and so Augusta was the first market they were expanding to. And that role, because it was sort of a startup, gave me the opportunity to do a lot of things that I wouldn't have done if I had this similar role in Atlanta. So I I was running around the rural parts of the state with provider direct— or paper provider contracts in the back of my car, dropping them off when we identified gaps in our network or places that we needed to build a network in order to file to sell coverage in that county. I was working with, in that role also, small employers, large employers, labor unions, lots of different variety. And so when I moved back into Atlanta, I was able to take a lot of what I had learned in that role and translate it into all the roles that I've had in the 20 years since. And so that has led me to this role today, and I get to bring all of that together in helping Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield grow in Georgia.
Amanda Free — Becker’s Healthcare Podcast · Amanda Free on Affordability and Access in Georgia’s Commercial Market · 2026-08-22Yeah. So I actually have a really good story about this. So my wife a couple years ago was traveling with her sister for a wedding a few years ago. And after the wedding, they ended up in Athens, Greece. And So while they were there, they went to a Domino's, and she said hands down it was by far the best Domino's pizza that she'd ever had. And you know, she's had Domino's with me in Vancouver, she's had it in Hawaii where she grew up, so she's had a lot of Domino's from all over the place. So it was really interesting that Athens, Greece of all places would have Domino's pizza that was the best that she ever ate. So I found this kind of interesting at the time because I was thinking, well, why, why is it that Domino's halfway around the world is going to taste different than You know, a Domino's right around my block. And I think I figured the answer to that since researching Domino's specifically for this episode. So internationally, Domino's has a whole bunch of franchises that are actually run by master franchisees. So they kind of offload a lot of that franchising to these master franchisees. And actually plenty of these franchisees are publicly traded. You got Jubilant Food Networks in India, you got DPC Dash in China and Hong Kong, then you got Domino's Pizza Group in the UK. So in these cases, the master franchisees, they're actually building out their own supply chain centers, and this is part of the reason that they pay a lower franchise fee to Domino's. It's much more of a pure royalty play, but that's why the margins are so high.
